Nice but not perfect
We just bought one of these, it arrived promptly. It is very well made, made in Tampa, Florida, great quality. And it should be well made because it is very expensive. My girlfriend and I bought this because we have been making allot of bread in our new Panasonic SD YD-250 Bread Maker (five stars btw for the bread maker! see my review there, highly recommended). This slicer does make perfect slices of your thickness choosing IF YOU CAN FIT YOUR LOAF OF BREAD IN IT. When you use the bread maker you can choose only medium, large, or very large loafs, the larger the taller. I am not sure if other bread makers are the same I would assume they are. To our dismay, the extra large and large loafs will not fit into this bread cutter, only the "medium" size and you still have to kinda scrunch it in. This bread cutter NEEDS TO BE HIGHER to allow for home cooked breads! Please rate my review if you found it helpful! [email protected]

Almost Perfect. Very Good!
Excellent bread cutting guide. Used mine now for a few weeks, every other day. I think it should have been designed about 1/2 inch higher. I'd like to see it with the side bars narrowed on the outside by 1/4 inch each (1/2 outside width reduced, overall). Inside, I'd like to have another 1/4 inch in width.Well built. Heavy. Sturdy. You need to keep it dry, which if used for bread, shouldn't be a problem. The wood isn't sealed (again, for bread, that is fine). Instructions for sealing the wood is available from their website. After sealing, slicing wet foods is possible. Can't be used with an electric knife, unfortunately. The knife blade's 'bolt' hits the bottom wood 'rail.' If the side rails were overall 1/2 inch less in width, the electric knife blades would fit/work down to the wood base. As it is, you can't slice all the way to the base with the electric knife. Using the electric knife on the wood guide really isn't a problem. The person wouldn't/shouldn't be pressing into the base wood with the knife anyway -- just going down far enough to slice. Using a (manual) bread knife has as much a problem of cutting into the wood base as the electric would. Will fit bread from the Zojirushi bread machine (model BB-CEC20), however, if the bread you make in this machine rises and finishes up to nearly the full height it can without touching the machine's lid, then it won't fit under this guide's arch. Like I wrote above, another 1/2 inch in height of the arch would take care of this and make it a great guide for this bread machine. Although the (inside) width of the arch is good, it is only marginally good. Another 1/4 inch in (inside) width and 1/2 inch higher for the arch, and 1/2 less in outside width and 1/4 inch more in the inside width on the wood rails would make this the perfect bread cutting guide for this bread machine and almost any other loaf of bread. As sold, it is a very good 4/5 bread cutting guide. If mine where to be lost or ruined, I'd buy another.

My sliced bread is finally even!
I went back and forth whether I wanted to spend that kind of money on a bread slicer. That was the one thing that held me back for over a month. I thought it was just too pricey. I have searched and searched - kitchen outlet malls, big chain stores, the internet, and while I found some on the internet - they didn't seem sturdy or have the reviews this one did. I found none at any store - even one that sold only kitchen items! The only reason I took one star away was because of the price.I read every review and then, on payday, made the splurge because EVERY loaf I made before turned out with thick pieces, uneven slices, UGLY. I knew I wanted something sturdy because I make several loaves a week. With that being said, it performs perfectly! I sliced some nice, thin, even pieces of a loaf I baked the night before it was to arrive in anticpation of receiving it. I was so pleased with the performance. My kids jumped right up and made grilled cheese sandwiches with it! I will definitely get my money's worth because it does exactly what it's suppose to do - makes the perfect slice of bread.(Update after using this nearly 2 years) I would now give this 5 stars because I have definitely gotten my $ worth. Im not changing the stars though or it will mess up my original post :). This thing is still going strong. As for the reviewer who complained because you have to "eyeball" it - well, of course. That takes about 2 seconds. I always look on both sides of the guide and unless I am just being absolutely careless, I get a perfect slice every time. Love this slicer. I make 2-3 loaves of bread a week during the school year and it has yet to show signs of not holding up.

Returning to vendor
We home bake about 2-3 loaves of bread a week and looked to this slicer to assist us in the arduous task of getting uniform slices of bread. We went no further than the first two loaves to see that this slicer was not going to work. It is too small despite the company's statement that it accommodates a 5" loaf. Our complaint is with the return policy for this company. The slicer could accommodate smaller loaves and seemed to be of decent construction. There was nothing that we saw on the Amazon website that indicated that this bread slicer would not accommodate the bread that we make. We find the 20% restocking charge to be excessive since we are also paying the cost to return it in good order.Attempting to hold us captive by charging an excessive restocking fee created to "encourage" us to purchase an alternative slicer, while advantageous to this company, does a real disservice to potential customers. If there were no restocking charge, we would consider another product. As it is, we will not become a return customer to this company.
