great book to teach with
I am trying to teach my son guitar and this seems like a great book so far. All the other books seem to be dealing with simplified chords to play common kids songs. This books focus on teaching music foundation. It goes into musical notation almost right away. Surprisingly kids are good at sight reading. Even I am getting a bit of refresher on music reading. I am a player and not a teacher, and I would not be able to come up with better lessons at the basics than this book provides. The songs are original, only I had no idea about some of the Australian terms are in the lyrics. It may bore an adult student a bit, it would be usable for that, but the context of this book is aimed for kids. Guitar books for adults are also quite boring as well.

Recommended mostly, except for the CD
Our daughter has an interest in guitar playing, which is not strange as it runs on both sides of the families. So we bought her an affordable guitar on Amazon that she can also bring to guitar lessons at school. But in order to get her a little head start we were looking for a clear intuitive instruction book. We easily landed with this one as it had the best and the most favourable reviews and the price was right. It takes the student through the guitar basics. It was ease for our 9-year old daughter to work through it. It also comes with an CD.. which was praised a lot in the review & which I can understand. But realistically.. CD players are getting scarce our daughter has banned hers from her room long ago as it looks ‘ancient’. So an accompanying app or website might be more appropriate these days. Aside from this fairly big practical issue the book, interestingly learns children how to read/play notes. I’ve learned to play guitar a little but only by playing chords. So I might evne take up the booklet myself to enhance my skill and understanding. If only I had a little more time..

A perfect starter for anyone of any age
Im a 33 year old man thats decided ti take up playing guitar and this book is perfect. Its basic - like, really basic but thats perfect for a complete beginner like me. The backing track is an excellent partner to the book and helps with rhythm and timing.

Great basic book to get you started.
It's written for kids, but I'm an adult beginner (not taking lessons) so I gave this book a go after reading reviews. I could already read music due to playing wind instruments, but no experience if guitars. It was very simple and easy to follow. Teaches you the actual notes, rather than chords, enough to play a few melodies. I completed the book in a couple of weeks but didn't get round to trying the CD that came with it.I've graduated onto a more technical book now, but this got me started.

So far so good
My daughter's started lessons at school, and the teacher recommended we buy this. She finds it easy to understand and is doing well with playing simple tunes. The ECD is a good addition to the book as it provides children with backing tracks to play along to and (this works on CD player or computer). On the computer you can also access the children/parents notes, as well as the backing tracks.Would recommend for child beginners.

Disappointing book intended for kids
Described on cover as "landmark guitar method for individual and group learning".For me am seriously underwhelmed. Book seems to be aimed at children and has strong focus on reading music which if this is what you after I suppose is good. I particularly dislike the way the author speaks down to the reader. This for example, "Hello I'm a guitar, This is my body. Why do you think it's got a hole in it?" or "How many strings have I got?"For folk who just want to learn guitar, I thought a book for children might be a good thing. Sadly was wrong.
