LifeSaver Wayfarer Portable Water Purifier
This is a great quality purifier and is easy to use. This is actually smaller than I was expecting but this is a good thing as of course takes up less space in our backpacks. There are good instructions contained and it best to read through these thoroughly and have a little practice putting this together before taking this out for the first time. You don’t want to attempt first use when out in the elements in the wilderness.Once hoses are attached though it is just a case of putting one hose into the water supply, the other hose into your water carrier and then pump away. Nice clean water in seconds, it really is that simple and results are highly effective. We cannot rate this high enough as it is easy to carry, well made and effective. Spare filters are available although the ones supplied are good for 5000L of water so new filters won’t be needed for a long timeA great filter system, highly recommended

A nifty light weight portable water filter unit.
Lifesaver Wayfarer portable water filterWhat an adventure this provides, with its scavenger hose, hand operated pump and fresh water outlet hose.Out of the box you have the main unit and a black bag for keeping it in. Inside the bag's main compartment is the scavenger hose, while the outlet hose is in a little side pocket where I guess it should be returned away from the scavenger hose to keep it clean. In the pocket I also discovered a carbon disc within a retainer O-ring and a small blue tool which looks like a handle but appears to fit the bottom of the filter (it's not mentioned in the user manual). Talking of the manual it is but two pages of information, get your reading glasses. I do recommend you read it first as it will explain that it has to be primed before first use and also shows (no explanation mind) of where that carbon disc should be inserted. The filter cartridge is removed by twisting the bottom of the unit in the traditional anti-clockwise direction. It twisted apart easily (once I pressed the decompression button also on the base, as yes I gave it a wee pump in the air first). The cartridge came out easily, I placed it on the side and placed the carbon disk on top of it, and then slid the body over both, finally twisting and locking it back in place. I like that it's possible to get replacement filter cartridge [1]. Note that while one cartridge is good for purifying 5000 litres the booklet does explain that it should be kept primed and re primed regularly to prevent stagnation. The handle pumps up and down nicely and draws water through quite easily once primed.I would have preferred if the little bung provided in the clean water outlet was connected to the main unit via a cord as I can see that being lost ever so quickly in the wild.1. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BT1YP4XY

A really solid piece of kit.
So, prepping for my annual hiking trip, likely somewhere rugged in Wales again this year, the thought of reliable water always pops up. I stumbled upon this LifeSaver wayfarer thing - and it seems pretty neat. It's about the size of a regular water bottle, which is a big plus when space in the backpack is always at a premium. It even comes with a little bag to keep everything together, including the hoses. The way it works is simple enough - just drop one hose into your water source – be it a stream or let's be honest, maybe even a slightly dodgy puddle in a pinch – and the other goes into your clean bottle. Then you just pump. A little float on the intake hose which sounds clever for avoiding sucking up all the muck at the bottom. And it doesn't take much effort to pump and if it gets tough there's a pressure release button. It claims to filter out like 99% of viruses, bacteria cysts, etc etc - plus even microplastics and some of those nasty tastes and smells you sometimes get in wild water. On my little test, with the water from our local 'Pandy pool' the water came out clear with no bad taste and it was pretty quick too, filtering a litre in just a few minutes. That’s exactly what you need when you’re setting up camp and need water for cooking or just a good drink. It's supposed to handle up to 5000 litres before you need to replace the cartridge, which is something I will need to find out yet - I'll then try to update my review. It's also very lightweight and doesn't need batteries or chemicals and that seems like a fair trade-off for self-sufficiency on the go - and for someone like me who values lightweight gear and the ability to get safe drinking water wherever the trail takes me, this Wayfarer seems like a really solid piece of kit. Thanks.
