EZE-Lap Knife Sharpening Kit

This is honestly the best angle sahrpening system money can buy. I've used Gatco and Lansky diamond sharpening systems and greatly prefer this kit by EZE-LAP. Also, the clamp on this kit is much better than the one you get with the DMZ Aligner kits. Knives easily shave hair once you use this system properly. The EZE-LAP DMD-kit consists of quality diamond hones, and rods that are sturdy. The kit came with a sturdy black nylon pouch with bands to securely tie down the parts of the kit. The clamp is a thick, solid plastic that doesn't bend. The 2 screw adjustments are ideal to clamp a variety of knives. The clamp does an excellent job holding a variety of knives very tight and sturdy. I haven't had any knives move or wiggle on me while I sharpen. Also, with all the knives of varying sizes, from small pocket knives to SAK's to larger utility knives, I have gotten the sharpest edges I have ever managed!Before I get into what I don't like, I would like to make a disclaimer: I got this kit because I am not good at maintaining a consistent angle while sharpening on a bench stone. That should tell you that I am no knife expert: I am a knife user and they are essential tools.1st Negative: There are only 2 fixed angles to choose from: 20 and 25 degrees. The Lansky Diamond Deluxe Sharpening System with Extra Coarse, Coarse, Medium and Fine Hones has 4 angles, and the DMT ADELUXE Aligner Deluxe Knife Sharpening Kit has 7 angles. The number of angles is a significant advantage to these quality kits, for various blade types and uses, but the EZE-LAP has worked fine for me.2nd Negative: The plastic backing on the stones that protects your fingers also limits how far toward the handle you are able to sharpen. To me this is a major downside. On my SAK (Swiss Army Knife) I was not able to get all the way to the end of the blade. I also have a Kellam Utility knife, and the handle on the knife stopped the stone prematurely. Especially with smaller knife blades, I feel it is very important to have full use of the knife blade edge. If you cannot sharpen one part of it, it can be rather annoying to use. From the pictures of the other 2 sets I mentioned, this is NOT a problem, those sets do not have a flared out plastic edge.It seems that the rods and stones on all of these sets are rather interchangeable, however, so I may just get stones from another manufacturer later. More likely I will modify these stones by cutting away this protective plastic flare.NOTE: The rods are rather loose in the guides that they run through which are supposed to determine the fixed angle. This is because the width of the opening in the guide is significantly wider than the rod. It does makes for a smooth motion, however, and I noticed that if you are pushing the stone according to the instructions, the rod will rest on the bottom edge of the slot, and maintains a consistent angle. Therefore I decided this is not a real negative, more of a concern.Conclusion: The kit isn't perfect, but I get great results with my knives and all the basics are good. My biggest concern is not being able to sharpen to the very end of my blade near the handle. This is a design flaw.

Great sharpening system. Period. Will not work on convex edges though...I almost ruined a Bark River Little Creek in 3V by using this (my fault). My only real complaint is the silly finger protection wings. They get in the way by hitting the knife handle...so the last centimeter or so remains unsharpened.

This is an awesome product, just a few passes on a dulled blade of any knife makes extremely sharp!I sharpened all my Swiss army knives, hunting knives and cooking knives wit this and they come out razor sharp. :)

Works GREAT - Better than my Lansky - Better sharping heads and rod attachment. Like the knife holder better too.
