Too rested to be stressted!
I decided I wanted to try floor sleeping again after getting a mattress that made my back hurt and left me feeling tired instead of rested, which impacted the way my whole day went. I had slept on a thin mattress on the floor before because I didn't have a bed and I remembered that I slept pretty damn good then. When I ordered this particular floor futon, I bought a very affordable, low pile rug to go under it and I am VERY happy with this purchase. It seems a little thin when you transition from a standard mattress, but it covers all bases that a regular bed does when it comes to your body, pressure points and skeletal structure. It cannot sag because it's supported by a floor, it's not hot like the marshmallow mattresses being sold "for comfort," and it comes with a washable cover to keep the dust and dander out that dust mites feed on. The material is breathable and well woven and the design on it makes it attractive to have as a folded seat during the day (which helps me show off the pretty rug I bought to go with it!). If you have back problems and can stand up from a low laying position, floor sleeping can be one of the best options outside of a back cracking chiropractor or expensive massage therapist, and this floor futon beautifully assists in that type of healing. I sleep through the night now, feel better during the day and my mood is better because of it. Worth the money.

Lightweight, Comfortable, Quality, Easy to Put Away, & a Great Alternative to an Air Bed
Why did you pick this product vs others?:The BEST item I have ever bought on Amazon. Lightweight, comfortable, quality, easy to put away, and a great alternative to an air bed. I wish they had these in all kinds of sizes and configurations. I could see this being a great bed for a pet; a great day bed for a baby; or buy several of the big ones, add multiple blankets for added comfort and use this for sleepovers for teens. If you like a firm bed, then just this on the floor will be great.

Recommended for occasional use.
A little too firm for my liking but very comfortable to sleep on while camping. Beats sleeping on the floor and much more convenient than a blow up mattress. You do need to have storage space to store after if you plan on using it in occasions, as it is quite bulky. If you have a compact car, don’t get it unless you have a rack up top. 4/5 because I feel like it was too expensive.

A good japanese futon mattress.
I don't write reviews very often but after looking through some of the bad reviews on this, I thought I would add my two cents. This is a very good japanese futon mattress, and I highly recommend this one if that is what you want - it is exactly what I expected and it is a very comfortable sleep for me. That being said, it is a japanese futon mattress, and so it is supposed to be thin and you are supposed to feel the floor. If you are expected a bed mattress of any sort, you will be disappointed. This is not a typical mattress - it is designed to be on the floor and be quite firm as a result. I think it is absolutely great and exactly what I expected. If you want a japanese futon mattress, this one fits the bill and I recommend it. But that is what you will get - a thin japanese futon mattress, not a typical bed mattress, even one that you consider thin.

First one a dud. Hope for the replacement.
Final Updated Review: My husband convinced me to do a replacement first and see if we get the same issues. It arrived promptly, but in a completely different color than what we chose (teal -> gray). Am I going to deal with returning again for that? No, but I will dock a star for that, because it is just one more thing that went wrong with this order. So we laid it out again to let it fluff up and did not touch it for 24 hours. Fluffed up decently, about 4 inches high. We put the cover they provided on. So far, the kids find it comfy and I have not seen any damage to the fabric like with our first one. One thing I didn't mention before is that it comes tightly rolled in a flimsy black bag. Both bags were ripped upon arrival, where the zipper is. They also provide you a travel bag of the same material for the futon, but I don't have faith in its durability. The bags feel like they are made of reusable shopping bags, the paper-y kind. I still have reservations on how long this futon will last, but for now, the replacement has held up. I've said all I can say about this product. If it falls apart on me in a month, I won't be surprised. But here's hoping it defies my skepticism. Wishing you a better experience! (Returning the first one was easy with Amazon's drop-off sites. We just brought the giant rolled up mattress to Kohl's. Thank goodness for that because there was no way we were squeezing it back into its original packing box!)Original review: We received it and unpacked it immediately so that our kids could use it as soon as possible. (We did not use it, we unpacked and laid it out per vendor instruction to allow it to fluff up.) It was well packaged and began to puff up right away, but it is still not as thick as the picture. The turquoise color is lovely, but we did notice a one-inch tear in the fabric (picture shown) after it had puffed up. The material is thin, feels like cotton sheets. I checked the stitching all around and that seems secure. The tear is disappointing since this cost nearly $200, but I guess I will just patch it up because the children have already fallen in love with it. Hopefully, the extra cover they provided will prevent further damage. Even though it is not as thick as I expected, it is comfy. If there had been no tear, I would have given 5 stars based on price, delivery, and fairly accurate product description. But still, the cost is high enough that I can't overlook the damage in the item.Update on Original Review: Day TWO, three more frayed holes. We have no pets. We laid it on the carpet. All I did was take the edges to fluff it a few times throughout the evening. The holes appeared on the bottom part of futon. I had wanted to just patch it, and count it as a loss, but this is too ridiculous. We are returning it. I am really disappointed.Purchase a better one somewhere else.

Japanese floor mattresses
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I have had this mattress for three nights. Very happy with the quality of sleep I have. Recently had a baby and not the best sleep. This mattress I am able to fall asleep quicker and get quality sleep even with a newborn. Firm mattress but supportive. I don’t have the soreness I normally have with other mattresses. It’s light and easy to move and fold. Definitely worth your money if you’re looking for something new or camping. Only thing people might dislike is letting it fill out for the recommend 48 hours.

Loved it
It’s a thin mattress compared to a regular one, but I liked it a lot more than sleeping on an inflatable mattress, which was my second choice.I’m on day 3 now, and I’m perfectly fine—no back pain and sleeping well.It served its purpose, and I really liked it!
