A solar project really ought to have a decent solar panel
Such a great concept, such a truly disappointing execution. Couldn't possibly be a worse testimonial to solar power. My ten year old and I put the drummer together as our first project. The panel that comes with the kit barely generated a volt of electricity in direct sunlight, not enough to power the motor even with no resistance. We applied a 1.5 volt battery to test, and our build ran beautifully: the fault was clearly with the solar panel. The whole point was to demonstrate viability of a solar power source, and it did the opposite. And while I'm kvetching, why, why, WHY in an educational toy about electronics would the manufacturer not use the standard wiring colours of red for positive and black for negative? Green and White? Seriously? Did whoever built this thing know the first thing about electronics? It's possible I got a defective solar panel: your results may vary, but my experience of this purchase was terrible.

Great educational toy
It was bought as a birthday present for my grand nephew and he loves it!
