No regrets
We are over 2 years (26 months) enjoying our GEME. It’s awesome. I don’t like wastefulness so being able to not only recycle our kitchen scraps but to reuse them in our garden has been really satisfying. I have lost track of the amount of compost we have been able to empty from GEME and use in our garden, but It’s a lot. Maybe the equivalent of 2 to 3 large bags of compost that I used to buy from the garden store. If I think of the cost of buying compost, GEME is probably gonna pay for itself in another couple years. For FYI, compost is “hot” so you shouldn’t put it directly into your garden. We empty our GEME into a large plastic trash can and store outside for a 2-3 months to “cool down” before we mix with our garden soil. The GEME is relatively quiet, like a hum. A bit louder than a modern refrigerator or in room air cooler/air cleaner. If I accidentally put too much moist waste in, then I can hit the dehydrator button and GEME dries the compost. If the compost has caked at the bottom because I put too much moist stuff in there, then I use the little scoop that it comes with, and I stirr the compost around. If it looks a little dry, I can add a bit of water. If it starts to smell, which is rare, I can press the deodorized button. Even though it is allowed, I choose not to put bones in GEME because even a small bone like a chicken leg can get caught in the blades, and it rubs against the liner and makes a loud squeaking sound, I choose not to wait for it to break down and compost. Maintenance cost is low. GEME does not require replaceable filters, which if anyone has priced those for other brands of composters, they are expensive. At the time when we first bought our GEME, small bags of GEME compost starter were not available, so we bought a small inexpensive bag of compost starter from Amazon, which lasted for about a year and a half. When we empty out our GEME we leave a little bit of compost in the bottom and add a couple tablespoons of compost starter to restart the process. There was no social media help for GEME when we first bought ours, so I monitored and still monitor social media support groups for the other brand composters. I’ve never had any of the troubles those other brands have. For example, on that other brand people have trouble with their liner melting and that’s never happened with GEME. Pictures of compost for that other brand just look junkie. My GEME compost looks rich and fertile. I’ve read some of the reviews on here where people are having issues. I’ll just say read the directions that come with the GEME. GEME is easy. No regrets and still feeling like I won a jackpot.

Composting Game Changer
I was looking for a device to compost my cats poop, spent litter, and kitchen waste. I joked with my cats that it was time for them to stop living at home for free and pay their way. I already use other devices: Aerobin, FoodCycler, and Subpod. I wanted to separate the cats waste from the compost I use in my veggie garden. My plan was to use the cat waste only in flower beds away from edible plants. I read up on the Bokashi method. Some use this method in addition to vermicomposting for processing pet waste. I was looking to compost my cats poo using the bokashi method and then use GEME to heat treat. This device uses the aerobic fermentation method, which we call hot composting. During the fermentation, the GEME-Kobold (a heat-resistant composite microbial group) and the industrial-grade purification system can deodorize itself. If using bio-cat litter, you don't need to pre-treat it using the bokashi method and put it directly into GEME. I live in the Northern Hemisphere and must switch from composting outdoors in the spring and summer to indoors in the winter. Composting outdoors slows, and the vermicomposting worms who live outdoors in the Subpods are moved indoors for the winter to rest, eat, and produce worm castings, which will be used in the spring for starting seedlings. Of course you could dig a hole in the yard, insert a bucket with a top on, drill some holes. Once filled, you dig another hole in the yard and repeat the process. Given I live in a state with four seasons, once the ground freezes and snow take over, the only option is to throw the waste in the trash or store it until spring in an air tight container. Eau de poo, no thank you. At first the GEME worked fine, then after a couple of months it stopped processing the waste and began to pile up (see the before photo). I contacted the company. Upon reviewing my amateur photos and video, they knew what the problem was and quickly provided a solution by swapping out an old part for the new. I am one of the early users. A known defect with the first generation has since been correced and improved. It's now working again. In the past, I didn't include the cat litter. Different opinions made me cautious to add it, but a representative from the company said it was okay as long as it is bio waste. I use pine pellets. Since I live in the Northern Hemisphere, when the bin becomes full (during winter), I put the excess compost in a container to use in the spring. You may be looking at the price and asking yourself, "is it worth the cost?" I can tell you; it is worth the investment. I live in the Midwest, and my state has experienced drought the last two years. I learned by adding compost and topsoil, soil retains more water and reduces the amount of watering (I only use rain barrels). I no longer throw away kitchen waste, have reduced garbage going into the bin (less to lift), and spend less time pulling weeds out of the garden. It's been a win-win.

Great household composter with a caveat
We love our geme. Silent, large capacity, easy to use, but we’ve had to keep it in the garage due to the odor. Its not terrible smelling, sort of musty sweet. I’m just sensitive to smells so the simple solution was for us to move it to a separate space. Just an FYI

Best thing ever
I’m in love with this thing. For context we used to just use one of those compost buckets that sit on the counter but this is an ADHD house and we would forget to empty that thing until it gained sentience and asked us to mercy kill it. At one point I decided I wasn’t gonna deal with it and put it outside where it stayed for probably like 3 months. That’s when we decided it was time to try something else and my husband bought this. When I say that I literally have no complaints I mean it. - it doesn’t stink -It holds SO much - We’ve had it for probably at least 8 months and weve only had to empty it once - When you do have to empty it the food has turned into basically dirt already so it’s not all moldy and gross - It’s quiet. Most of the time I don’t even know it’s turning - it’s nice to look at. I don’t mind it sitting out in my kitchen - it’s about the size of my large kitchen trash can and it fits right in - it’s insanely easy to use. I will literally peel veggies directly into it and all you gotta do is shut the top and it gets to work for you -You can put almost anything in it. INCLUDING MEAT In my opinion this thing was worth every penny and has made my life so much easier

Two year life expectancy
A week ago I would have given it 4-5 stars. We loved it and then it just stopped working. Life expectancy 2 1/2 years. Very disappointed

Functions Exactly as Intended & Great Post-Transaction Customer Support
I live in a rural area on septic so I am very careful about what can go down the drain. Geme being the size of a normal kitchen trash can is super convenient to just scrap food waste into it and let it turn into great compost for my garden. Helps keep rotting food out of my trash to draw in predators to my chickens/dogs and lets me utilize my food waste instead of sending it off to a landfill. Customer service is excellent as well! I bought one of the earlier models available. One of the plastic gears bent after several months of frequent use so the chain that turns the rotor slipped off and the device was unable to churn the compost. I contacted Geme and they send me a newly designed, sturdier gear free of charge. It's nice to see a company that honors their warranty and is continually looking for customer feedback and flaws in their devices that they can upgrade! Super happy that the new gear could be retrofitted on to the new device instead of having to replace the entire unit to further reduce plastic/appliance waste ending up in landfills! Geme is worth every penny!

Works well, while it works, but always noisy.
On the plus side, while this composter worked, it did a good job of creating actual compost, unlike the vast majority of the electric indoor "composters" out there. But, from day one, I didn't feel it was going to last. It was rather noisy from the very beginning and the drive for the agitator sounded like it was struggling even when only the starter was in the compost chamber. That of course got louder as the chamber filled up. If that was the only issue, I would have been happy, removing excess material from the compost chamber is easy enough. But, over time, the agitator drive became louder and louder, eventually getting to about the level of cooking popcorn in your microwave (a little too loud if you live in an apartment since it cycles around the clock). Just the other day I finally started hearing the sound of the agitator drive skipping with around a half full, quite dry, load of compost. That is actually another issue, the compost container has no place for the "tea" that is created while composting to drain off, so some of the compost starts to get quite sticky as it absorbs the tea and that tends to build up on the walls of the compost chamber. I really wanted this composter to work out and it kind of did, but it seems it needed a little more R&D before being offered for sale. Hopefully they can come out with an updated model with stronger agitator drive and a way to drain off the "tea" rather than letting it get mixed back into the compost.

Broke after about 2 years, customer service not helpful.
Compost quality is top notch. Processes just about anything in hours. No noticeable smell until you open it and it really doesn't smell much or unpleasant when you do. That's the good news. The bad news is that it broke about 2 years after using it which for this price is not good. Worse, customer service has been a mix of unhelpful and unresponsive. Those last two things really soured me on this company.

Turning Kitchen Scraps into Magic: The GEME Electric Composter Experience!
I must say, I'm over the moon with my GEME electric composter, and let me tell you why. First off, that 19L capacity is a game-changer. I mean, it's practically like having a bottomless pit for kitchen waste. Cost-effective? You bet! I ordered this bad boy primarily because of that supersized capacity. Now, when it comes to operating this marvel, it's a piece of cake. No buttons, no complicated setups. Just add some water into GEME-Kobold, then toss in your kitchen scraps anytime, and boom! It's like magic – the GEME kitchen compost bin is fully automatic. I've never felt so lazy and eco-conscious at the same time. What sets the GEME Kitchen electric composter apart is its claim to be the world's first food waste composter with biotechnology. And let me tell you, it's the real deal. This thing doesn't just dry out your waste, it actually turns it into genuine organic compost. The composting effect? Impressive, to say the least. But wait, the real kicker here is the odor (or rather, the lack of it). You can throw all the food waste you want into the composter machine, and you won't catch a whiff of any unpleasant smells. It's like a miracle – your kitchen stays fresh and stink-free. Now, let's talk about the filter. I've dabbled with other electric composters before, and they always had me shelling out for replacement filters left and right. It's a money pit and a headache. But not with the GEME electric composter. Its filter is like the superhero of filters – it's permanent, my friend! No need to keep buying new ones. That's some seriously smart design that saves you big bucks. Stay tuned for more updates as I get to know this beast better. Who knew composting could be this easy, odorless, and cost-effective? GEME electric kitchen compost bin, you've got my kitchen waste under control!

Best purchase we have made in a long time.
We have had this since Dec 2024. It is everything that was promised. We receive 100% compost after 24 hours; if not sooner. Very quiet, no odour and is very convenient to keep indoors. Has dramatically reduced our garbage. Highly recommend this product.

Generates real compost. Doesn't smell.
It generates compost continuously and gives off heat. Silent operation paddles rotate very slowly.
