The Texas Bushcraft wool blanket is made in India with imported virgin merino wool from Australia. What is that smell? You may notice a faint odor of lanolin on the blanket. Lanolin is a naturally occurring oil found in wool. For some the smell can be a little off putting, but for others it’s hardly noticeable. We’ve opted to leave the naturally occurring lanolin oil intact to avoid the use of harsh chemicals which can compromise the durability and softness of the blanket. The lanolin is also beneficial because it reinforces some of the natural benefits of wool like being naturally fire and dirt resistant. If you’re someone who just doesn’t like the smell, the good news is the lanolin smell wears off with use. We’ve found that laying the blanket out in the Texas sun for a few days speeds up the process considerably! How do I clean the blanket? Wool blankets do not need to be machine washed because of the self cleaning properties of wool fibers. Machine washing and drying can be damaging to wool. Spot cleaning goes a long way! If your blanket gets heavily soiled, we recommend dry cleaning as the best way to maintain the size, structure and appearance of your wool blanket.
