A Very Pleasant Surprise.
Boats..... I do not like them. The concept of sailing bores me to slumber.HOWEVER, author Paul Rodgers in this book writes so well I am delighted and transported by his awesome sea saga.Clever writing, clever analogies with light hearted humility is enchanting. The sea is deitized. The gifts of mind expansion and attitude change are mine.A herald to mariners both genuine and armchair: this book is worth your time.

Unfortunately its dreadful
Well where was the editor or a friend just to review this book before publication. The background story seems interesting and the writer has a good background in sailing so the book should have been good. However the story is obscured by the most dreadful prose such as" something solid gains a greyish shape.A column of sea squirts up from an obstruction. ......Great Bob! Well spotted! Ready to go about? Lee ho!.....The leeward sheet leaps clear, the sail cracks as the tension goes.." etc etc. There is just too much description .Read MIng MIng for restrained but fascinating sailing literature.Sorry

The finest book on adventures on sea and disasters on land I have read in a long time!
A superb book of sea faring and survival against the odds, while the waves, sharks or the justice system is trying to have you. What I appreciated the most is how well written it is, great descriptions of life on these little exotic islands, you can not only see, but smell and hear everything as you are reading. I have favourites like the beauties and the beasts in the "Girly Bar", or the passing corpse (not just a horror of it, but the reflections on eternity and our brief presence on this amazing planet). Not to mention braving the storms alone, and the huge surprise twist at the end. If you google the title, you will get to the author's blog where you can read a chapter for free!

Tension on the High Seas
A fine tale told clearly and with effective tension.Reminded me of the Joseph Conrad stories of the high seas. Well worth reading.
