My new go to crock for making kimchi
This is the perfect crock for a small kitchen. I've used it for a number of ferments, but I especially love it for making kimchi. The unit is very solid, and the glazing is perfect throughout. The waves are solid and do the job perfectly. It's a great size for sitting on the counter without taking up too much room. Would definitely recommend, especially for beginner fermenters like myself who are just getting started and need a reliable crock to work with.

Love this crock!
I absolutely love this crock! I purchased it as a newbie to make my own fermented krauts. The reason I picked this particular one was because of the existing reviews, the size, and the color/shape.The crock holds a good amount of veggies but isn't too large for my smaller sized kitchen. It is beautifully constructed and I have not noticed any defects. It came with a wooden tamper to push the vegetables down, weights to place on top of the kraut as it ferments, and some basic instructions to get you started. All very high quality and much appreciated. My first batch is at the 2 week mark and will most likely be ready for us to eat by next week. I was purchasing kraut at the grocery store and farmer's market for around $15 a jar which adds up over time. I find cabbage to be very affordable and feel like this will pay for itself quickly. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Excellent quality...better than my German kraut crock!
I bought a .5G and 1.3G crock from Humble House to test out. I've been fermenting off and on since 2007. Back then I started with a large, expensive Harsch Gartopf German crock with ceramic weights and a water trough. The German crock was just too big. I only ferment foods for me; doing small batches of kraut, kimchi and sometimes lacto-fermented pickles. These Humble House crocks are a perfect size for 1 person jobs or for small batch experimentation. These crocks are affordable, which allows me to own a number of them to ferment different foods simultaneously. The glaze and finish of the Humble House crocks is excellent! The German crock had a very rough finish and the weights were unglazed. I've sold the German crock and plan to buy a couple more of the smaller Humble House crocks. Very happy with them.My only complaint is the entrance hole on these mini crocks is a little too small and it is tough to get my whole hand in. An inch bigger would have made a big difference. Also, the wood stamper is kinda small diameter, but I have my own stompers, so just saying. The company does a good job keeping the cost down on the crocks and I would not like paying a higher price just to get an unneeded larger stomper with the package. Just look at the included wood stomper as a bonus item and not a top end stomper. Thanks, Humble House for making a well-designed, affordable and quality product!Daniel D. Highly Recommend
First off, I am a Master Food Preserver and Food Safety Advisor (certified by WSU). I have taught many classes on canning and food preservation. So when making a purchase I need quality and budget friendly. I have 5 children and purchased the 10L size in 2018. It has been the best crock I have used, it was reasonably priced. And it has been the crock I recommend to others. After several years, I decided to purchase another one. However, as always I do my research because I want to be up to date on tools for my classes. I looked at other ones and decided to make a repeat purchase. I took a look at the reviews and was a little surprised at some of them. And maybe I can lend some clarification for inexperienced or first time buyers. So for the mold problem with weights, anytime you have non-glazed weights you need to clean them differently. There are a few different ways to clean, personal I like to put them in the oven after I wash them with out soap. However the new weights are glazed so a typical wash with soap should do the trick. I also heard some issues with water leaking, personally I have never had that problem but it sounds like some who is inexperienced with using this type of crock. If I had a student come to me with this question I would first look at the crock because you always have a chance of a defective product but if it is fine, it's likely the user putting too much water. Here's the thing, you don't want to fill it, you only want enough to set the lid on because if you have too much water there is a curve to the lid on the bottom and it will siphone the water in. (because it's too much water). Another issue was not being able to put the weights inside. My answer would be you have too much inside the crock. When you buy a crock, you are not getting the same amount of product, meaning if you buy the 10L crock you are not going to get 10L of sauerkraut. Fermentation needs room to ferment. you cant fill it up I would never fill mine 3/4 full ever. I want a good ferment and that takes room, so 2/3 is my limit. If you are having trouble I would recommend getting a bigger size or use less. I hope this helps. When I received my second crock this month it was scratched, I reached out to the company and they sent a replacement. They allowed me to keep the scratched one and donate it to a student. Thank you. I have just given it away. You don't find good customer service very often in this day when profits are more important than people. After my experience I highly recommend this product. I was not given anything to write this, I paid the same price as everyone else. And i hate writing reviews and don't. But felt I should share this. This is a worth while purchase.
