Solved my fern watering problem
Have a big fern inside, needs to be watered every few days. But it is difficult to water because it’s so bushy and dense, the water splashes out and goes on the floor. I like these because once I got them situated down into the dirt, I left them there, and I can easily water. My plant is high water use so I have no need of slowing down the speed at which they drain. I fill them several times over until they’re not draining instantly. I didn’t really need the corks for my purposes. They are cute but the fern is so full, they are not even visible.

Help my potted flowers to last all summer
Love these self watering sticks. Ordered a second set because they work so well and are pretty in my pots of flowers!! They water deep down at the roots, which is better for delicate flowers. I did place a small thin piece of fabric at bottom of tube & secured with small hair band. This works perfect for deterring the soil to work its way up the tube & clog it. Such a great device and I love that they add to the beauty of the potted flowers, instead of some large ugly colored ball, they are a small, beautiful shaped ,clear design. Bit pricey, but work SO well.

I finally figured it out!
I love these globes. At first, I was a bit enjoyed because the water drained immediately. I then wrapped a cheesecloth around the bottom but it still drained within minutes, even when I doubled the layer. I then pushed about 3" of cheesecloth inside the globe where the water pours out and now it works perfectly, I can adjust how much cloth I put in if I want more water to come out but now it produces a constant slow drip. I think the seller should include a little cloth to put inside or a little stopper with holes. I do love the simple clean look and how easy it is to fill.

Pretty, BUT not functional for my indoor plants.
They are really cute and they arrived securely packaged, BUT they are not really working, at least for my indoor plants. In the description it recommends that you rubberband a piece of fabric over the end that goes into the dirt. That did not slow down the water flow at all. I also tried a cotton ball, which was better, but still not holding water long enough. I would recommend these for plants that drink a lot of water daily.

Perfect for weekly tomato watering
I know a lot of people are trying to use these for plants, and I've seen complaints from some that they drain all at once rather than a little water at a time. Well, that's actually perfect for me - I use these to water the tomatoes in our raised beds. This allows me to water them right at the roots, and not have to wait for the water to soak in to that level. I insert these in the soil, then pull the back up slightly to create a "reservoir" at the bottom of the stem. Then, once a week. I fill the bowl about 5 times, letting it drain all the way each time. This gets lots of water right to the roots. The tomatoes look great!I have not had any of these break, but the glass seems fairly thin so I would only give them a 4 for durability. But that might not be fair, since none of them have actually broken.

Is it necessary?
I bought 6 of these because I feel like my plants look healthier when the roots are being watered directly. And these are SO easy to refill and/or water your plants with. However as soon as the soil is even a wee bit dry it will pull ALL the water out ie not gradual .The enclosed water globes are gradual but what a pain to refillI read a review where someone stuffed the end with bits of cheesecloth to slow the drainage up. I didn't have cheese cloth so used bits of an old t-shirt. Seems to work better. Ie ALL the water didn't drain out, I still have some sitting. I plan to add more t-shirt and see if I can adjust the drainage speed.I haven't found them to to 'time saving', because I seem to need to refill them often enough to where I might as well water the plant !Again the water globes are WAY better for thatIts probably physics at this point, an open receptacle is not creating the pressure needed to adjust drainage vs dryness ?The best system is still my DIY string,- water bottle capillary system. I can forget about watering the plants but it does look ugly.Honestly if someone is selling a beautiful string-bottle kit I will buy it :) Maybe Et..y ? LOL
