We just received ours and I was wondering if there is a protective covering over the gold top? It looks like there are a few scratches/mars.

There was not a protective (clear) covering over our tissue holder when it arrived.

Does this come in the rectangular box cover?

I've only seen the square. It's very nice if you can use a square one instead.
