Inspiring stuff..
This man puts into a more helpful context, the contemporary 'need' for comfort. There is a lot to learn from here

Bonhoeffer's Letters from Prison
There is much to explore as one reads this book. I referred to his biography and the Bible due to his many references. The introduction was valuable to explain that his writing was censured before release. The importance of the little things in life were interesting - - the birds, the sky, the feel of fresh air. His persistence with a discipline daily - - prayer, Bible reading, exercise, were impressive.A good book to read and read again.

Grace Under Pressure
The reason I bought this book was to have something that would absorb me over the Christmas period, which in the UK I find rather misanthropic, over-commercial and profoundly depressing. Of course I could be the misanthrope here, or at least like a substantial percentage of the population-prone to depression. I bought this book to cheer myself up and it did that. I particularly appreciated the introductions which provided some context for the letters-the fact that they were written with the german censor-who had to pass them-in mind, and there were other letter written which were delivered secretly which were more frank and it was too dangerous for either their recipients or their sender to keep -such letters had to be destroyed. I have to honest, I have an interest in Bonhoeffer's ideas of how Christianity might work in a world where it has no hegemony and is often willfully warped and misunderstood by the people and ideas that do have hegemony since from his prison cell he seemed to describe life in the world today. But also life under the Romans before Constantine would have been like that for christians. The Christian Life under Islam would have been like that too, and I am sure it still is where Islam has not yet gone from a quiet but open feud between it's factions, to open warfare, destroying the world in their own Islamic World War supported by the purchace of weapons systems etc from The West the same idea of trying-to-get-a-message-of-peace-through in the face incoherence and conflict applies today. As it is what I sought cover from is relatively minor-a system of commerce which drains the meaning from that part of the church calendar which celebrates Jesus being born. It put some sustainable meaning back into that time, which I cannot help but see as Grace, in the form of words.

Great read
Obviously very personal but also a great book on certain theological discussions. Really enjoyed it! Read it and some other of his books for my dissertation and very much enjoyed the process of studying his work.

It worked out pretty well on Kindle
It's a classic and I got it to read 70 years since he was killed. It is worth reading and bearing in mind the context in which he wrote these letters etc. It worked out pretty well on Kindle.
