Sony's Dualshock Grows Up
I have been a PlayStation owner since the launch of the first PlayStation home console in 1995 and have been using Sony's controllers from the original PS1 gamepad through four different versions of Dualshock controllers. When the original PS1 launched in the US I remember distinctly loving the (then) radically designed controller. After sticking to the same basic formulation of that controller for nearly 20 years Sony introduced the Dualshock 4 with the PlayStation 4.--------------------DESCRIPTION:--------------------The DS4 is a continuation of the controller designs that have been so successful with Sony's PlayStation consoles. The DS4 builds on previous experience and designs and is really a fantastic, well-built and comfortable controller. The DS4 is larger than its predecessors the DS3 and DS2. The increased size will probably be most noticeable to adult gamers and especially to folks with larger hands. Some of the most common complaints with the previous Dualshock models was the size of the controller.Aside from a larger form-factor the DS4 implements some really nice touches including longer handles and a textured plastic material over the bottoms of each handle and entire back of the controller. This makes holding on to the controller in hectic gameplay moments a bit easier. The face buttons are slightly larger as well and feature matte-finished face buttons (square, triangle, circle and 'X'). The dual analog sticks have also received attention. The convex curvature of the previous controllers has been abandoned for indented slightly concave joysticks. The sticks have also received a grittier rubber finish making them easier to keep your thumbs on. The excellent D-pad has been retains and features crisp and clean button presses.New Additions:The major changes for the DS4 include:♦ Touchpad: This front mounted touch pad is a really great feature that games utilize in different ways. The touchpad can be used for fine adjustments when moving your fingers across the surface or depresses on each side for more direct inputs. It's a neat feature that hopefully more games will take advantage of.♦ Built-in speaker. That's right the DS4 gets it's own speaker. It's an interesting option that's taken advantage of in games differently. For example in the game Resogun the speaker is used to communicate direct information to each unique player via their controller.♦ Share button: The former 'select' button has been replaced by 'Share'. This button is used in a variety of ways and directly interacts with the PS4 firmware to either snap in-game pics, video, or live-stream game sessions right from your controller!♦ EXT and headphone port: These are built into the bottom of the main body of the controller and used for headsets that connect directly to the controller (like the one included with the PS4) or to charge the controller with the optional charging stand.--------------------USE:--------------------I've had my PS4 for almost a year along with two DS4 controllers and absolutely love the controller. It's by far the best that Sony has produced for a PlayStation console. The controller is more comfortable and ergonomic than its predecessors and that leads to less strain on hands. Thanks to the increased power of the PS4 interacting with the console (XMB) via the DS4 is extremely fast and responsive. Contrast this with the PS3 that always featured a bit of lag due to limited RAM resources.Games that take advantage of the new DS4 features are out there and hopefully developers continue to find new clever gameplay elements to implement with the touchpad and speaker.--------------------WHAT SONY GOT RIGHT:--------------------(+) Size. The Dualshock finally grows up and will be immediately more comfortable than the smaller DS2 and DS3.(+) Joysticks. These joysticks needed attention. The convex design led to less than ideal control for fine movements and that's been addressed with the DS4s more precise sticks.(+) Share. The ability to take in-game screen captures or video or even livestream gameplay is so incredibly easy and implemented from the onset.(+) Construction. The controller is well-built and even my bundled controller looks like new. You're getting your monies worth here.--------------------CLOSING:--------------------Sony's has really created a fantastic controller that addresses common complaints with previous versions and then some. This is a fantastic controller that's more comfortable and better designed than previous versions. Recommended!

Great Controller Worth the Buy
Works perfectly, best gaming controller out there, Love the ability to plug my headphones into the side of the controller and use them instead of only using a blue-tooth headphone. Touch-pad is amazing for typing and with some games it helps with the functionality and game play is interesting using the motion sensors within the controller. Overall controller in perfect condition and the built in speakers makes hearing specific in-game events and sounds interesting and well built sturdy control. I sometimes drop it or someone else drops it and it still works fine. The color is amazing and though its white it does not get dirty as some people would think. Keys function perfectly and did not have any trouble pairing it with my ps4 just plug and play. Joysticks are well made and not easily broken for actions such as flicking and holding in a direction. and built in speakers make gaming experience come to life in a new perspective as phone calls and private in-game conversations come through the speakers on the controller. Share feature makes this controller amazing as you can share videos, screenshots and mini clips of you game play with the press of a button. No effort needed. The EXT port is also a neat feature used for charging stations.

Ergonomic, responsive, and long lasting.
The DualShock 4 is a fantastic controller. Really a step in the right direction from the DS3. I've got fairly large hands and most other DualShocks gave me hand cramps after extended use but this controller give me no problems after prolonged use! I've had multiple controllers last more then a two years with daily use. Battery life is great, and charge times are low! The only issue I had was when I aquired a used controller and the triggers eventually stopped responding well, but who knows how long the previous owner had or how well they took care of it. Since I've got a white PS4, I opted for a white controller, but I've used the other color options available and they are all a fun change from black or white. Admittedly the controllers might seem a touch expensive, but the average user will most likely get 3+ years of use out of them, with proper care. 10/10, would buy again.

PC gaming
Setting the obvious aside, these are now my go to controllers for PC gaming as well. Track pad helps use the mouse on loading screens where devs didn’t implement controller support yet(Fallout 4). Accelerometers can be used to assist aiming a la Nintendo Wii U if you find the right settings in Steam. Speaking of, Steam has native support for the DS4 now. I still find myself using a mapper like DS4 Windows every now and then though. Works both wirelessly through Bluetooth and wired through usb for marathon sessions. Huge upgrade from my 360 controllers which need dongles or hard wired connections to use. Worth the effort to use. Definitely perfect the form factor now.I’ll also mention this is a good midpoint between the 360 controller which is the standard for button mapping, and the steam controller with its infinite configurability. The DS4 controller has almost as many inputs to map to, a better form factor, vastly better build quality, and not quite as steep a learning curve.
