4.5 Stars - Almost perfect
The weights themselves are great. Very solid, nice handles, good materials. For the price, this a really great set of weights and it’s great having the 5 lb. increments. The rack was easy to put together, looks great, and doesn’t take up much space at all.The first downside is the smell when they arrive. I knew about this from other reviews so i unboxed them outside, rubbed them down with a dish rag using soapy water, and let them stay outside (under a covered area) for a few days. They still have a smell up close now but they don’t stink up the room like they would have. The bigger downside that I don’t have any solution for is the width of the rack hooks. They are made to hold the weights at a good spot on the handles, but that makes them more narrow than your hand. When I pull them out, I can only grab them with 3 fingers and when I put them back I have to kindof toss them in a bit or risk pinching parts of my hand against the hook. (see pictures)Given all of that, I’m taking off half a star for the rack width because, as long as you clean them well when you get them, they are otherwise a great set and well worth the cost.

Weigh happy with this purchase
Recently ordered these hex dumbbells with the chrome handles, and they are an excellent bargain at this price range. Perfect weight training range for the needs of a 55-year-old guy who is just looking to stay healthy. They arrived in four very well fortified boxes - two 25lbs; two 20lbs with two 5lbs; two 15lbs with two 10lbs; and the rack. Yes, they had a light oil sheen and smell, but after washing them in the sink with Dawn, there's no smell, no sheen, and no residue. No burrs in the chrome, or peeling of the rubber coating at all.The rack holds them perfectly, has a small footprint, and takes about 15-20 minutes to put together. You'll need a traditional wrench to hold the nuts steady, as they only include an L-shape hex wrench to screw in the bolts. Great dumbbell set for people looking to stay fit by incorporating some strength training.

Smelly but pretty good for the price
Easy to put together. Looks good. Felt rather cheap but it was sturdy so it'll get a pass. Weights smelled funny though, in a bad way.

Great Set, Great Value
As others have mentioned, these are shipped in three boxes of weights at 50# each, and one narrow box that holds the stand. In my case, while extremely heavy duty boxes were used, and well taped, one of the boxes was sliced open and minor damage to rubber ends of DBs in that box occurred. Looks like it was slid over something which cut it through. In any event, 2x5, 2x10, 2x15, 2x20, 2x25# DBs are included, making this an excellent "base" set. Handles are knurled and as expected in diameter and abrasiveness. No gloves required, but your mileage may vary.Is there a smell? seems to be the burning question. Of course they have a smell. They were just born of chemicals. They smell like what they are: rubber. So if you have ever had a new bike tire in your house, that is the smell, multiplied by a few pairs. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, and I was able to start using right away. I cannot relate at all to folks who seemed like they were going to swoon after opening the boxes.NOTE: I "washed" these with dish soap and water before using because they are covered in manufacturing residual dust etc. and will make your hands filthy otherwise. Mine did *not* have any kind of oily residues, as others have mentioned; again, just new tire smell, which for me is not obnoxious. But hey- some people think cilantro tastes terrible, so there is no accounting for taste.NOTE #2: Unlike the way Amazon's own brand and some other DBs I have purchased are wrapped, these were just loose in the box. No Styrofoam, no placement in a baggie, nada. Just in the box. So they are not going to be 100% brand new and flawless looking when you take them out. Get over it. They're dumbbells. They'll look like that in a couple months of workouts anyway. Also, because there is no protection, be judicious in opening the boxes. Just slice around the tape so you are not gouging a chunk out of your new best friends.I got these for basically a buck a pound, which is what weights were before Covid, and what they should be anyway, and held off on buying them until I hit the sale amount. Having said that, they would still be worth it for the $200 amount too, of course, just slightly less of a bargain. As has been mentioned by other reviewers, the A-frame is easy to put together, but will take your fingers off if you are not watching what you are doing when replacing the weights onto the rack, something which was also true at many gyms I have used and is a bug and not a feature of this style of rack.Definitely recommend, and would purchase again. Plan on augmenting with additional weights and eventually using a horizontal rack for all of them, but this was a steal-- and delivered on top of it.I am keeping the boxes. These are some of the heaviest duty boxes I have had sent to me. You should keep them until your return date is over anyway, in the event something untoward happens and they need to go back.

Excellent for the price
Nice set with accurate weights. The knurling is very grippy, bordering on sharp, to the point that I took a file to some of the edges. I was very cautious of everyone's description of the chemically smell as I live in a small apartment, and they came a little greasy, so I washed them with dish soap before I set them up. This seems to have done the trick because the smell was very minimal and was more akin to just plain old rubber, which is normal because there's a lot of it, and even that was only if you got close and went away after a week. The stand is a bit chintzy and a bit of a bear to put together if you want to get everything symmetrical. It does wobble a bit, but overall has held up well and doesn't worry me. The hand space when picking up the weights off the rack is about 3 adult fingers, so it's not ideal but it doesn't bother me. Just know what you're getting into. The shipping was interesting. It came in several boxes, all heavy as anything. The cardboard was pretty heavy duty, but that didn't stop the weights from shifting and rubbing against each other. This did result in a bit of gouging in the handles of a couple, but it wasn't anything too serious. Overall, you get what you pay for, and these are excellent for the price. If you want a perfect experience, cough up $$$ because this stuff is typically expensive.

Good quality dumbbell set
Good quality weights. I like how the weights are rubber coated so they don't scratch up the floor. They are easy and comfortable to use. The rack is sturdy and holds the weights well. The overall set is pretty compact and doesn't take up a lot of space. Very happy with these weights.
