Product Description The 3D-CGI feature Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.Danny DeVito lends his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms voices the enigmatic Once-ler. Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic young boy who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Ashley, the girl of Ted’s dreams. Rob Riggle plays financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White portrays Ted’s wise Grammy Norma. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is the third feature created by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Hop). desertcart.co.uk Review An animated rendition of Dr. Seuss's classic book about the threat of industrialization to nature, The Lorax opens in Thneedville--a town never depicted in the original book. Thneedville is an artificial place, made primarily from plastic. It sports inflatable trees, fast cars, and air quality so poor that the residents are forced to purchase bottled fresh air. In another new twist to the story, 12-year-old Ted (Zac Efron) discovers that his crush Audrey (Taylor Swift) wants nothing more than to see a long-extinct Truffula Tree, so he sets out to impress her by finding one. Since there are no real trees in Thneedville, Ted acts on the crazy stories of his grandmother (Betty White), venturing beyond the city's walls into the desolate wasteland to locate a mysterious creature called the Once-ler (Ed Helms). Here the story and animation begin to more closely follow the book. Ted discovers the grumpy recluse, who reluctantly begins to tell him a tale about a once-perfect landscape filled with beautiful Truffula Trees and cute frolicking animals--a landscape now decimated by one greedy young man's insatiable appetite for profit. The beauty and wonder of the Truffula forest and its creatures are right out of Dr. Seuss's illustrations. While the forest creatures may not be directly referred to as Brown Bar-ba-loots, Swomee-Swans, and Humming-Fish, the cute little bears, funny-looking ducks, and especially charming trio of singing fish are instantly recognizable. They serve, as they do in Dr. Seuss's book, to add just the right amount of humor and levity to what would otherwise be a pretty heavy-handed message from the Lorax (Danny DeVito) about environmental preservation. Ted's hormonal instincts to impress Audrey slowly begin to take a back seat to the plight of the lost trees and animals, and the Once-ler's assertion that "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better" rings true by the end of the film. The abundance of original music is a nice and unexpected addition to the story, though why neither Efron nor Swift actually gets to sing is perplexing. (Ages 5 and older) Tami Horiuchi Review: An enjoyable fable with some important lessons - I have liked Dr Seuss stories from a young age and have been drawn to every adaptation based on his many creative tales. I tend to prefer the animated ones over the live-action ones, and very often the sheer peculiarity of the stories and their characters makes the choice of being animated almost default. Fortunately, The Lorax is an animated adaptation of Dr Seuss's tale about a town that had all-but forgotten what actual trees were, and were living out their lives in an almost Orwellian bubble of plastic existence and buying bottles of 'air' from an overbearing corporation. Granted, the 'trees' in the story don't visually resemble what we know as trees, but you get the point. The lead character ventures out to try to find out what went on, and in doing so learns about how previous generations exploited the trees and didn't value their worth to both to nature and the environment as a whole. Ultimately, the story ends nicely, and you are left with a feeling that very often occurs with most Dr Seuss stories, in that in reality this is a fable not just a story, in that there are moral lessons to be learned. We do need more trees and shouldn't take this planet's natural resources for granted. The Woodland Trust ran some Lorax promotions during this film's launch to try to encourage more tree-planting and increased awareness, but I wonder how many people just view films such as these as pure Hollywood fantasy without realising the connection to the real world and the differences we can each make to the environment. A great film which the family will enjoy, but remembering the lessons that fables try to teach us would stay true to Dr Seuss's philosophies, and that can easily get lost under the Hollywood sheen. Review: Soooo good - catchy songs and great characters. - Used this in conjunction with the book for a whole 4 week unit of work on the environment and persuasive writing with year 5. The children loved the video shown in stages (at that time the film had not been released in UK) and learned the catchy tunes. Great when compared with the book and had fantastic discussions about why the story was developed to include Thneedville and the character of Ted. Also the extra videos on how to draw the characters were much enjoyed and the children followed them well to produce great pictures of their own. Moved on to creating clay and other 3D models.

Loved it!
To be honest I wasn't too bothered about this when it was out.. didn't take much notice. I first saw it when my 16 year old son had bought it and we all watched it.. kids enjoyed it as did I. But for me I personally loved the message in the film as I'd say it relates to more in real life than most of us see or realise. Obviously for the kids they loved the humour and the songs as I did too and I also think even they picked up on the message.. it's quite funny but I've heard comments lately that sooner or later we'll be paying for air and to breathe! Well worth watching.

A bright and colourful offering
Having been to Seuss Landings at Universal Studios I decided to look into Dr Seuss a little more as I had really not been exposed to much of his work as a youngster so I looked into what films were out there and came across a few so decided that The Lorax sounded interesting. This film is really beautifully drawn, bright and colourful whilst having a story that resonates with society today in all of the concerns about the damage being done to the environment by humanity and delivers the message of how important each person is in stopping the destruction. A really good film that is not just for children.

Great film! Obviously Dr Seuss did most of the work here writing the story and it mostly follows his plot though with a bit of embellishment. With the beautiful graphics, fun songs and some good life lessons, it's an all around good film for the whole family. I got it at a great price too, so even better!

Children's delight
I would repeat the comments in Woman of substance but then add that this author has, through me given my children and Grandchildren so much fun and pleasure. I think that all children should have this man's stories read to them and, in such a way that the reader can, and should act out the reading. I am now 80 years old but can still hear my children laughing; repeating names like The onceler; swoomy swans and other titles from the book. Wonderful.

Fab film, one to be watched over and over and over
We have always loved the book and saw this film at the cinema shortly after it was released. Loved it then and after many plays, we still love it. My children are 5 and 8 years old and they think it is hilarious. Plenty of proper laugh out loud moments for all the family. A really colourful, funny story. A must have for the family DVD collection.

Insbesondere eben was fürs Auge. Unless...
