It's called a Liner Lock. If you will position the knife upside-down, with the blades sharp edge of the knife pointed upward toward the sky, you can see through the middle of the knife. The piece of metal running down the center of the knife is the liner lock. Take your finger and push it left while you gently push the knife blade toward you until it unlocks. Then just close the knife. You only push the metal piece until the blade moves from the lock position then you don't have to push it in anymore. I would practice this slowly for a while and use caution everytime. Even people who's used knives all their lives still get cut.
