Focuses purely on techniques for rock which is (mostly) good
Your kids won't be learning songs from this book. It's great as an aide for teaching skills and techniques, but needs to be paired with a teacher. Don't just give a kid this book and expect them to be entertained by it. But it's not a digestive-beige chord book, or a book about learning acoustic , very focused on electric rock technique so it's better than a lot of the stuff out there

Learning Power Chords
This is a book for kids but is essentially a guide on how to play power chords on the first 3 frets (A5, D5, E5). This is essentially OK because small fingers will cope with power chords as opposed to being limited to major chords played with 1 or 2 fingers (I class 3rd finger on G on high E and 3 open strings above as a chord when played together). I get that this is electric and not acoustic. A small gripe is photos show adult hands where this is for kids and no 'best practice' guide on which fingers to try to use. Then we quickly move into Palm Muting, Accidentals and Root Notes and this advanced when you can only play 3 power chords! . The problem is the book cover lends itself to kids of 6,7,8 year olds but the content would easily suit an adult beginner. A guitar teacher is a must when using this book and you can get more from internet lessons (free or subscription).

guitar book
This is just what I was looking for for my 7 year old. Perfect for him to start his real guitar rather than his air one.

Decent Book
The CD and book compliment each other quite well. A child will still need adult tutoring whilst working through the book but it's O.K. The cover is livelier than the contents - the pics are in black and white and there are no cartoons as suggested by the cover's design. Overall, it's a decent book, provides a good intro to guitar playing but the contents isn't as exciting as the cover portends.A good, exciting book (no CD) to accompany this one is Learn to Play Guitar

Excellent
One of the best books to teach rock guitar to young aged people. Audio tracks are also very good. Recommended.

Yes, You Can!
Not just for kids, I found the rock licks in this book not only fun, but very easy to learn and pick up on. Just good to know they are there to fall back on and just noodle around with on the guitar. You don't learn any songs but get a real basic idea of some of the riffs that rockers do. And don't we all want to be cool like them!

Easy rock, great fundamentals
My students love learning from this book. It has really fun and easy exercises from the start. They all feel like rockstars. Great book.

technique and a foundation, but not as fun as I hoped.
Kid friendly, with emphasis on technique, but my Son was frustrated that it took him forever to learn a song that he was familiar with. I liked the Hal Leonard Guitar For Kids (5-9) better.
