Tormek SVM-00 Small Knife Holder for Use with SVM-45 Knife Jig / For Sharpening Small Blades

This item is fantastic for my needs. I highly recommend it. It is working great for me to sharpen very small knives. I have nice (long and narrow) TS-PROFs filet clamps of multiple styles. And those can do the job too. But this device is cheaper and I love the way it works. It is very quick to mount for most knives. I've found it very easy to get it aligned with the support bar. It is solid and I just don't have any complaints about it - it works that well for me. Of course, as mentioned above, you do need to mount the knife within it's clamp so that it aligns with the support bar. I've found that very easy for most of my knives. But...it is true that - by default - this device expects your knife's blade to be centered (from side-to-side within the knife itself. And some knives simply aren't made that way (Swiss Army multi tools, most Microtech OTFs, etc.). So, there are certainly some (many) knives where the blade is offset (in that the blade is closer to one side panel than the other). For such "offset blade" knives, you can accommodate that offset by adding some spacer item(s) - like a few Popsicle sticks, a ruler or clothespin - to one side until you achieve making your blade appear to be "centered" in the knife's body. Yes, that is a bit of extra work to temporarily add such a spacer, but its easier than it sounds to get it right when you have a knife that needs it. And you can achieve blade centering by doing so. This device may not be everybody's cup of tea. But I LOVE it. It is a great option to have in the sharpening kit.

The small blade adapter from Wcked Edge is expensive. The small blade adapter should have been included with the Wicked Edge system. Found some you tube videos recommending this item. It works as advertised. Holds a small blade very securely with no wiggle. I tested its compatibility with my WE system and it works just fine. Sharpened the blade of a Victorinox SAK without any problems or difficulty. I would recommend this over the WE version.

I use this with my Wicked Edge sharpener to hold small knives that do not clamp well in the Wicked Edge vise jaws. Works VERY well, almost like it was made to use with the Wicked edge sharpener. I only gave it a four star rating because even when clamped tightly there is still a possibility of the knife moving of one were to use too much force when sharpening. The portion of this unit that secures the knife is made of a resilient plastic so as not to mar the knife, but this will also allow some movement of the knife if one presses hard enough. Solution? Don't press too hard - let the abrasive do the work. When used properly, this device solves a huge problem with the Wicked Edge sharpener - blades that are too small for the vise jaws. Keep in mind that the potential movement I'm talking about is very small and easily avoided. A much bigger problem I've seen when using this adapter with folding knives is the movement of the blade caused by a loose pivot on the knife itself. Some folder pivot joints can be tightened with a screw to prevent this, but I have yet to find a solution for traditional slip-joint folders that are loose.

I don't have a Tormek, but my cobbled-together collection of guided sharpeners always struggle with smaller knives. Well, with this I was able to perfectly lock in a tiny Swiss Army key-chain knife, and put a perfectly even edge on it (the steel is still crap, but man is it sharp). I'm kinda annoyed at how simple this concept is for the price, but it just works so I bit the bullet and got it. Very happy I did!

I bought this to use with my Gatco guided knife sharpener. This thing works fantasticly for my small knives and my wood carving tools. Simple to use and easy setup. FANTASTIC .

This works great for small bladed whittles or other small blades in our precision elite from work sharp. Very happy with this jig.

Overpriced crap. They should have designed a real holder for small blades. This level of adapter on adapter is worthy of Ford stupidity of bracketry where they use an alternator for all engines by putting bracket on bracket on bracket. I am disappointed in how difficult this is to use and will build my own adapter when I get the CNC running.
