I know that a lot of reviewers complain that this trimmer makes the trimmed hair "fly" around the bathroom countertop. However, after having purchased a cheaper beard trimmer that had a built-In "vacuum" that sucked the hair into a small chamber, I decided to spend the extra bucks to buy this one because the cheaper model only lasted about 5 months before some of the flimsy plastic parts broke.This trimmer is amazing! When you turn it on, there is a "professional" hum of the motor. It has a really nice feel in the hand and is easy to maneuver. All of the trimmer parts are rinseable and the guard is made of a high quality plastic that won't break easily.There is an adjustment "wheel" that can adjust from super-short to five o'clock shadow length. Note: this is NOT a trimmer for long beards - it is meant to be used with close-cropped beards.The battery life is excellent as well. One full charge has lasted me 3+ weeks of daily trimming of my beard. It also has a great safety feature to child-proof the trimmer: simply hold the power button in, and the trimmer is locked so it can't accidentally be turned on. Another long-press will unlock the trimmer for use.I highly recommend this trimmer even though it costs almost double of cheaper models. But as I said, having been disappointed with a cheaper trimmer that didn't last more than 5 months, it is well worth the extra money.

After reading tons of reviews on different trimmers (seriously, I went through so many!), I decided to give this one a try and saved up for it. Here’s my honest take:Pros:It’s a very powerful trimmer – cuts through hair easily.The head detaches effortlessly, making it super easy to clean.Beard hair doesn’t get stuck in the trimmer head, unlike many others I’ve tried.Compact and portable, making it perfect for travel.Delivery was impressively fast.Cons:It’s quite expensive, which might be a dealbreaker for some.It doesn’t come with a case, which is disappointing considering the price point.Overall, I’d give it 4.5 stars. It’s a great product, but the lack of a case for such an expensive item was a bit of a letdown.

I bought this in 2018 from Amazon. I use it for beard trimming only. I had earlier Braun, Norelco, Wahl. This is the best by far. Not for long beards as the max extension of the guard is 10mm. Battery isn't the best. I'm buying a second as the battery is starting to fail and I've tried everything else but nothing compares for my needs. I hope the new one is as reliable as the old one. Clean it, lubricate the blades, don't run it until the battery is totally discharged and you'll get years of reliable service like I have. It might not be a Swiss Army knife but it does exactly what I want.

I've had all the cheaper trimmers out there, they work ok, and perform well around $40-50. So why would you spend 3 time the amount on this trimmer?1. The battery life is amazing, being a Li ion setup it can last a whole week before charging, which makes it perfect for travel. This is the only Li Ion panasonic beard trimmer out right now, the others are older tech that is cheaper. Step up to something better!2. The motor is the most powerful i've ever owned, it sounds different, very very fast, very very smooth. My other trimmer sometimes felt like it was tugging at my long beard hair, this thing sounds like a formula one engine turning on, very satisfying sound and performance.3. Insane fine adjustment! This thing can adjust itself in very fine adjustments, way more so then my previous trimmers.4. Sturdy and well built, it doesn't feel like a toy. This feels like the Rolex of trimmers, a little bigger, a little heavier, finely machined and assembled.5. Waterproof?! This thing can handle an adventure in the shower, or a quick wash down to get it clean again! The other ones in this series do not provide that.So who should buy this? Someone who wants to pamper themself on something better. We all trim our beards or body hair often, make it a peaceful experience! I highly recommend this trimmer!

I compared this to the Wahl Lithium Ion 2.0 and Phillips Norelco Multiroom 7000. I ended up keeping the Norelco model over the other two.Pros:Feels great in the hand and really well madeBuilt in trimming guard attachment is awesome. Great adjustment and works really well with a goateeCons:1 hour battery life- this was the deal breaker for meLoudPriceyReally spits the hair out all over the place, even more so than other modelsMotor/blades not as powerful as Wahl and NorelcoI returned it and kept the Phillips Norelco Multigroom 7000, which was 1/2 the price. Yes the Norelco has separate attachments/trimming guards which is inconvenient, but I couldn't justify spending $100 for 1 hour battery life. Improve the battery life (to 4 hours), and I'll be back!

I've tried quite a few different options. Used to use Philips QT7000 series beard trimmer with vacuum and really liked it. I also have purchased and used Panasonic and Wahl trimmers in the past but this Panasonic SB40 is in a different class by itself. Motor is super powerful and blades run at higher speed which makes for a very comfortable trim experience. The unit is very comfortable in your hand and the adjustability is very granular so you can be very picky about the length you want to achieve. Also, this is a pretty simple unit. Not a bunch of different attachments or combs to fumble with. List price is pretty high but Amazon had them at a more reasonable price but it is still higher than most other competitive products you see out there. That said, you will immediately see the difference in build quality and operation smoothness. Very impressive and worth the extra cash!
