Fixed the no-heat and noticeably louder microwave.
Last week our 4-year old Samsung over-the-range microwave got noticeably louder, began emitting a burnt electrical smell, and stopped heating food. I took it down and removed the main cover. Initial inspection revealed no obvious damage. Symptoms seemed to point to the high voltage diode and/or the magnetron itself. I took this $5 bet AND WON! Make sure you unplug and DISCHARGE the high voltage capacitor before poking around in there!!! Super easy to do but soooo important. When I removed the old high voltage diode I noticed there were smoke marks and a tiny bit of charring on the old one. 2 days later this w-pack arrived. It was replaced, assembled, remounted, and popping popcorn in 20 minutes. So glad I took the gamble.....and now have a spare if it happens again. Great product and an easy repair. Thanks!!!!
