Melinda Gordon communicates with earthbound spirits, ghosts who cling to the living because they have unfinished business that prevents them from moving beyond the familiar plane of existence that we call life. Inspired in part by the work of famed medium James Van Praagh and of Mary Ann Winkowski, a real-life communicator with spirits, Ghost Whisperer explores the spiritual side of life and death as Melinda navigates among the dead and the living in her sometimes chilling, sometimes heart-rending and sometimes amusing attempts to act as an intermediary between the ghosts and those they haunt. Jim, her husband, worries about the emotional toll this work is taking on his wife as they embark on a new life together. Melinda recently has revealed her gift to her new friend, Delia Banks, a single mom who works in Melinda's antique shop. However, Melinda fears the consequences of drawing Delia into this unconventional world. Melinda also shared her secret with quirky Professor Rick Payne, an expert in occult beliefs and history who thrives on helping her gain insights into the more baffling paranormal phenomena she encounters. For her part, Melinda accepts her unique abilities as a blessing and sometime curse, but always helps her clients, alive or dead, find emotional closure. Great Series! Can't believe only 5 seasons!
I used to watch Ghost Whisperer few years back, in the old Living TV channel but then I stopped watching altogether. I only recently began to re-watch last year when it showed on FOX channel and I just remembered how great the series was, really. I never got to watch the 3, 4 and 5 seasons so I brought the collection to watch it.It's about a recently married women Melinda who moved to Grandview with her husband Jim, she was born with the sight to see ghosts and never had an easy childhood. She was taught by her late grandmother to help these earthground spirits, who still have unfinished business. The series is more about the emotional issues between the ghost, and the people and finding redemption even at the darkest moment of life.It is a great series, totally recommended people buy it and watch it because its worth it. It's different from the crime/police series around.

If you like ghosts and beautiful clothes, this is the show for you!
Love this series, both the story-line and the characters.. JLH is so beautiful and the stylist on the show was amazing, the outfits are so stunning and makes it a joy to watch. The stories are not too far fetched, ok maybe a little, but mostly touching or fun and not silly, except for the final series which goes a bit weird, but once you get that far into the Gordon's history, you have no choice but to continue watching..For most of the early series you can watch one episode without needed to know much more about the series, which is quite nice, well it was for my husband who can't watch a whole box set to save his life, later on the running themes become more important to keep track of .. I love the main characters Melinda, Delia and Jim, you really want to be their friend (when the ghosts are not around, mind you) I much preferred Rick to Eli, but both are funny, likeable guys and the cosy small town setting is just perfect (same vibe as Gilmore Girls..).Just a great watch, I would recommend it..Oh and did I mention the clothes Melinda wears, her hair and not least her shoes? Just gorgeous!!! :-)

A fantastic series that loses its way towards the end (spoiler free)
------------------- Series review (spoiler free) -------------------"Ghost Whisperer," for a long time, was my favourite show on television. Premiering in 2005, the series follows Melinda Gordon (played by the always excellent Jennifer Love Hewitt), a young woman who can see the spirits of those who have passed away. Following in her grandmother's footsteps, Melinda helps these spirits complete any unfinished business they may have with the living - for example, perhaps they wish to relay a final farewell to a loved one, or bring the person who killed them to justice. These unique stories drive the series forward, and the tale of each spirit is usually wrapped up by the end of each episode. With the help of her friends and family (who may, or may not, depending on the person, know of her gift) Melinda delves deeper into the spirit world, uncovering evil spirits along the way and some truths about her history and family ties. The series initially begins in a very episodic format - a ghost appears with an issue, and it is resolved by the time the episode has finished. There are some hints and cliffhangers sprinkled throughout the episodes, and both the first and second seasons end with a series of episodes leading up to action-packed and exciting finales. The first two seasons are similar in structure to one another, and compliment each other well. They are also equally excellent examples of how to do heartfelt storylines properly, with characters that the viewer genuinely cares about and stories that are both interesting and unique. The third season begins establishing a more ongoing plot, detailing Melinda's search for the truth about her family and the town that she lives in. It sticks with the episodic format however, and ends with a satisfying number of twists to keep the viewer entertained (being the shortest season of the series, the pace also seems to move a lot quicker than the previous two). Perhaps most disappointing, however, is that one of the main storylines of this season is left wide open for the rest of the series, and never really cleared up in any meaningful way. This isn't an issue with the third season itself however, as the storyline comes back into play during the fourth season, yet is never fully resolved. The third season overall is perhaps the best season of the series, perfectly balancing individual ghost tales and an ongoing plot - something the next two seasons entirely failed to do.The fourth season as a whole seems to entirely lose track of the mythology and subtle, heartfelt stories of the previous seasons. The episodic format is almost entirely pushed to the sidelines, giving way to a continuous (and preposterous) plot revolving around the idea of the finality of death. There are still ghosts to be crossed over each episode, but their stories feel diluted in comparison to the other seasons. There are also far more twists this time around, with cliffhangers at the end of most episodes. Sadly, the season ends with a duo of terrible episodes, which clearly mark the nadir in the series in terms of quality. The ridiculous dialogue and characters on display during the finale only served to show that "Ghost Whisperer" had certainly lost its way over the course of the 2008-2009 season. However, the season does offer some excellent moments, some of which are stand-out moments of the series. The final season of the show somewhat manages to get the series back on course, all but forgetting a large number of developments in the fourth season (for the better) and taking place five years later than it. The season can't quite reach the quality of the first three, with another ongoing storyline dealing with the evil spirits that have been present throughout the series, and their eventual fate. The season generally feels a bit cliché, with a typical good versus evil vibe present throughout, but the individual ghosts in need are focused on a bit more overall than in the fourth season. Perhaps most rewarding, the season offers a good amount of closure of the plot-holes present in the first two seasons, explaining what happened to the evil spirits seen early in the series, and why they never appeared again. The series finale (which, at the time, wasn't actually supposed to be a series finale) offers many a reward for long-term fans, with a lot of long-running themes and arcs in Melinda's tale coming to a close. The final scene of the series also closes the show exceptionally well, offering an ending that could easily be a proper series finale - don't be afraid that the story of Melinda Gordon will be cut short, there's a heartfelt, apt closing to the season and series.------------------- Conclusion (spoiler free) -------------------Overall, "Ghost Whisperer" can be easily recommended to anyone that enjoys a heartfelt, at times action-packed drama. If you're looking for scares, you may want to look elsewhere - this series usually focuses on the human aspects of the spirits, telling their individual stories and offering them redemption. It is rare to find episodes in which horror is the main focus, although they do arise from time to time (with varying results - if you're used to the horror genre at all, you certainly shouldn't be too shaken). It's true that the series wildly lost its path during the fourth season, and the final season certainly couldn't reclaim the quality of the initial three (yet it managed to be good enough to act as a decent ending to the series). One or two questions are left unanswered throughout the series, although they aren't incredibly important and can be overlooked somewhat easily. After all is said and done, "Ghost Whisperer" can be looked back on as a fantastic series, full of interesting ideas and heartwarming stories - and one which thankfully went out with both grace and closure.

Excellent
I ordered this as my wife saw a preview of it somewhere.Arrived nice and fast like all of our Amazon orders. No problems and no damage. The stories are absolutely fantastic. We're still on the first series and it's hard to watch one or two episodes at a time. It's usually 3 or 4.Marvelous to look at with good acting and storylines. If I'm picky the only thing I find is the constant music throughout to be a little grating. But I can live with it.Not sure if it's as good as Lesley Sharps's AFTERLIFE but it's certainly excellent.
