A good read..
If you like soap operas you'll enjoy this story about women starting in 1938 to 1940. This is about Maureen who works for her father in a corner shop, refused to marry her boyfriend because the father had emotionally blackmailed her.Peggy who with her husband Laurence run the local pub. Their two children are Janet and Pip.Anne the teacher who after returning to London becomes a supply teacher as and where needed and an ambulance driver as well. But not much is given to her story. I'd like to hear more about her than just the mentions she gets in conversations after the first few chapters.Peggy's daughter Janet also has a story to tell with her boyfriend, they marry after she falls pregnant and her father kicks her out. Mire to come in book 2.

Really enjoyed this
Having just finished working my way through 10 books in the excellent Shipyard Girls series by Nancy Revell and looking for something new to read, I came across the Mulberry Lane series on my Kindle. At first I was put off slightly by the fact it was also set in the second World War and I also wasn't sure if I wanted to start on another long running series (7 books so far), yet something drew me to it and I am so glad I did.I have never read any books by this author before, but I really enjoyed the story. It was what I call an "easy read", meaning it is very easy to get into and the story just rolls along. I am keen to see what happens to Peggy, Janet and Maureen, so will be reading the rest of the books in this series as soon as I can. I have also made a note of another series the author has written called the Harpers Emporium which I will be looking to read once I have made my way through this series. A highly recommended read.

Nice but so dull
If you’re looking for a nice but very dull book this is for you but if you want characters with depth and a plot that will hold your interest buy something else ... I got bored half way through!

The Girls of Mulberry Lane
If the rest of the Mulberry Lane Books are as page turning as this first in the series novel then I am going to be turning pages for quite a while yet. Brilliant read. Reason for only 4 stars is because I felt that a lot of loose ends had not been finalised. However I imagine that this will be because the saga is to be continued in the second book. I am starting the second book in the series now.

Good read
I really love novels written about this period in history...around the time of WW II. The author did a good job of characterization. The plot was believable and interesting. I am looking forward to reading the 2nd in the series.
