Good sturdy item (so far...)
An earlier reviewer said that the lid should be a tighter fit to avoid being dislodged by wind. Well, mine has been exposed to winds of around 50mph and the lid (which gently clips on to the main body) has remained firmly in place (but see UPDATE below). The lid is a useful feature because it helps prevent evaporation which is a problem with the more open designs, particularly when you're away for more than a couple of days. I have three different designs of rain gauge in different positions, and this one showed a slightly higher reading than the others after a couple of days (I had been away), which seems to confirm the benefit of the lid. Have only had this unit for a couple of weeks, so it's too soon to know how durable it is (such as the cracks reported by a couple of reviewers), so I'll see how things go for the coming year. It has a nice clear scale, with markings embossed into the body, so it's easy to read and won't suffer age-related fading and weathering as has happened to one of my other raingauges.UPDATE: A year on, I've bought another one of these for another location. The lid on that is quite loose, so might easily be dislodged by wind. Time will tell, but it does illustrate the variability of manufacture of this item. My first gauge has never yet lost its lid to the wind :-) Nor has it cracked...UPDATE 2: My originally purchased gauge is still in good shape with no signs of cracking or weathering. My only slight problem with this gauge is that it's a little difficult to read: surface tension (?) makes the edge of the rainwater ride up very slightly against the side wall, and it's difficult to know where to take the reading: the top edge of the water against the wall is about 2mm above the flat surface of the water and could result in a false reading. I'm sure the same problem must exist with all similar devices, so it's not a 'fault' as such.

Good quality product
Good quality product. Easy to read the scale. Living in a windy situation, I was a bit worried that the lid might blow off or the whole thing blow away but so far so good.

Will blow off in wind
The way the bowl is mounted on a spike it will blow off in a wind if not already pretty full. Used a bit of Bluetack to overcome

Under reads due to shallow funnel
The collection funnel is very shallow causing raindrops to bounce out and not go into the gauge. Comparing to another gauge it under reads by about 10%. This is greater during heavy rain.

Just what I wanted
With climate change there are more extremes of weather. My old rain gauge's capacity was too small to cope with these circumstances. The new one however has a much larger capacity and should meet my needs. It is also better designed and easier to use.

Good quality, does the job but loose top is a bit of a disappointment.
Well it's doing the job just fine so far (only had it a day but plenty of rain to collect!), it's a good size while still being quite unobtrusive. My only slight disappointment is with the top which sits on fairly loosely, would be better if it clipped or screwed on more firmly, I've stuck mine on with insulation tape as even on our less windy days it would probably blow away in five minutes!

Very good rain gauge
The central spike means it is easy to read, though it does make it harder to clean
