Will it to heat soup up

Yes, it could be used to heat up soup, but I probably wouldn't recommend it as, being almost 8" square, it can be a little awkward to handle when pouring out anything from it. There is no spout, but a corner would work but make sure you remove the power lead before lifting it.

How deep is the inner dimension from the bottom up to the rim.

It's 13cm but actually deep for cooking is 9cm
