User Friendly NAS
I am a home use/small business user and this is my second QNAP. My first is still fully functional after 5 years. The set-up was easy, installation of hardware was a snap. Within 3 days I was fully functional on all my connected devices. Video streams without a hiccup over mobile internet connections. QNAP support responds within a day via portal and are clear in their answers. It does have two RAM slots. I am currently running 24 GB RAM. per support it can hold up to 36 GB RAM which far exceeds my needs as it has m.2 and I do not use this as a plex server. I do stream a fair amount of video content for my teaching endeavors. 1 year update - As with all things some growing pains. QNAP always returned my support ticket and even set up a call. Although I can't stream videos as fast as I like (there is likely a way just not one I know) the NAS has been EXCELLENT. QNAP also has been EXCELLENT. It really just works and I forget about it yet still have the backup immediately available from my tablet or phone. Also I have video feeds save and synch from the studio. So when I get to the upstairs editing room the video is already on my workstation. No more transferring to USB sticks !!

QNAP TS-264 the little Plex NAS that could
I wanted a NAS that could run Plex and store all my media like videos, pictures, music and provide easy access. I originally purchased the TS-262 without knowing about the 264. The 264 was well worth the extra 50-60 dollars. In this price range you can't beat the features. 4 bay (2 nvme & 2 sata slots), Quad-core cpu vs dual, 2x 2.5gb ethernet ports vs 1, built in ipgu for tanscoding, hdmi, pci slot, 8gb of ram vs 4gb. The only con is the nvme is pci express 3, and the ram cannot be upgraded, but since I'm not doing any Virtualization it doesn't bother me. 8gb of ram is plenty for plex. I've not had a single hiccup, I've been able to max allowed remote connections set to 12gb 1080p max using transcoding, along with 5 simultaneously internal network connected devices. Using around 60% resources. This was using hvec files. With h264 everything ran on direct and utilized 10-20% system resources, and with subtitles floated around 20-30%. 4k files were also not an issue when running on my home network. Using 1x 12tb ironwolf sata hdd with a 1tb WD nvme setup as an ssd cache. IMO if you're looking for a dedicated plex server/nas solution, this is finally it.

Good for the long haul.
This was a great replacement to my 8-year-old QNAP. I updated my drives to solid state, and the speed improved remarkably. Setting up a NAS, and upgrading the memory took a bit of investigative work on the QNAP forums- which have recently moved, so be prepared to spend some time with your installation. But, once you're set up, you should be good for a decade.

Very good software and great documentation and video tutorials
I purchased the Qnap TS-264-8G nas server (2 bays), installed 2 Toshiba 8TB hard disks, and also 2 Samsung NVME 1TB cards. It is best if you install both at the same time, easier to enable Qtier and setup the storage pool. Device is working fine, my main usage is for backing up my Macbook (using Time Machine). We can also enable Plex server, if you want to have your own video server.

A love affair with some heartache
I purchased the TS-264 as a replacement for the aging TS-251+. Setup of the new system was almost effortless except for two things. I'd moved my SSDs directly to the new NAS (as per Qnap's instructions), but the new NAS could not find any of the data ("no disk available" for new storage pool, which temporarily freaked me out). The fix was: QNAP GUI > Control Panel > Privilege Settings > Shared Folders to click [Restore Default Shared Folders]. The second issue was discovery of the NAS by other devices. My digital radio could easily detect the old NAS, but not the new one. After hours of search I found that I had to install the "Media Streaming Add-on" in the Multimedia Console for the NAS to support UPnP. While solvable, those two issues caused enough headache to cost one star. It would have been far better to avoid the missing disk error to begin with, especially given I was migrating within the same Qnap product group. Secondly, while I appreciate that the UPnP protocol has security issues, it is perfectly fine if used within a local network. Qnap could ask this during setup and enable it without users having to search the net for a solution. I'm happy now and the NAS is part of our mesh network, linked to our TV and backing up our data into the cloud.

My First NAS
This is my first NAS and really enjoying it so far. I use it to backup my MacBook Pro 2019. I had been using a LaCie 2 Big enclosure with a total of 1TB RAID 1 capacity for the past 15 years to backup my previous MacBook Pro Late 2008. Extremely reliable it was now full and could no longer backup my machine without deleting older Time Machine backups. I put 2 8TB HDD in this NAS and configured as RAID 1 so I have a total of 8TB for piece of mine for many years. Enough to backup other Windows machines in the house. I like that I can backup wirelessly and not have to be tethered. I’m planning on running a Linux VM in the NAS at some point. A bit scared of opening it to the internet at the moment. Need to learn more about security first. I do not regret my purchase so far.

Great device!
Great device. Snappy response and great features for backing up photos and files. It's a little loud (just hard drives running), but overall it's great. Easy transition from an older device that failed, simply swapped out the hard drives.

I recently purchased the QNAP TS-264-8G-US 2 Bay High-Performance Desktop NAS, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations. As someone who relies heavily on digital storage for both school and personal use, finding the right NAS was crucial. The TS-264 has been a game-changer. Build Quality and Setup: The NAS is solidly built, with a design that's both sleek and functional. Setting it up was a breeze, thanks to the intuitive QNAP software. The step-by-step instructions made the process smooth and hassle-free, even for someone not very tech-savvy. Storage and Expandability: The two-bay setup offers plenty of storage for my current needs, but I love the fact that I can expand the storage if needed. The flexibility to add more drives in the future is a huge plus. Support: On the one occasion I needed assistance, QNAP’s customer support was outstanding. They were knowledgeable, patient, and helped me resolve my query quickly. Conclusion: The QNAP TS-264-8G-US is an exceptional NAS that combines high performance, ease of use, and reliability. It's perfect for anyone looking for a dependable storage solution, be it for professional or personal use. Highly recommended!

Tolles Produkt, macht mehr als erwartet. Gute Leistungsmerkmale. Die RAM kann entgegen anderslautender Angaben auf 64 GB erhöht werden, nur darauf achten das keine fest verlötete RAM bestellt wird.

I'm using this for a media server and personal backup. It has exceeded my expectations. It's easy to use and has loads of apps to accomplish whatever you may want. QNAP has put out videos walking you through just about anything you may need to do, which really helped me with setup. They've also got helpful forums and tools on their site for picking out good HDDs and such. As someone else pointed out, it's supposed to have soldered RAM, but there are indeed 2 removable slots for RAM with 8GB already on board. I thought about upping that to 16GB, but I really haven't experienced any need. Even playing gigantic 4K movies on Plex has been effortless, and I haven't even installed my M.2 yet. It took me awhile to land on this QNAP for my media server, but I'm glad I went with it and not something more expensive or more troublesome to get started with. For me, this has been perfect.

I have just received the unit, and to my surprise (while installing NVME drives), the model I have received don't have RAM soldered into the motherboard, it has sodim slots just like a laptop, so it's upgradable (max is 16gb supported by this CPU). I ordered an extra 8gb Crusial RAM stick, I'll install it and report back.
