The perfect little kitchen gadget!
I have a microplaner, but when grating ginger or garlic, it tended produce a watery product. Then, I remembered a grater from my childhood. After some research, I settled on this Kyocera 3.5" ceramic grater. This is exactly what I need! It doesn't break down the fibers as much, so the grated ginger and garlic don't end up watery. The ceramic grater is sharp enough to grate through ginger or hard cheeses but won't eat your hands or fingers, and it's super easy to clean. This also comes with a cleaning brush which can be handy for gathering every little bit of whatever it is you're grating and/or cleaning the grater. I've only had this for a day so I cannot speak to its longevity, but it certainly is durable and very versatile! It's definitely worth the cost!

Unlike stainless steel, ceramic helps prevent the destruction of vitamin C.
I really like this ceramic garlic grinder. It’s very easy to use, and it turns the garlic into a smooth little puree. And unlike stainless steel, ceramic helps prevent the destruction of vitamin C.

this grater provides a much better end result
This 6.5" ceramic grater is far easier to use than the hard cheese grater side of my stainless steel box grater (which is what I have been using). In grating large quantities of ginger root at a single time, this grater provides a much better end result, e.g., you get pulp and juices, and most of the fibers of the ginger root stay attached to the root. I find the flat orientation of it much easier to use than the box grater's upright orientation and the non-slip rubber ring on the bottom keeps it in place quite nicely. The collection moat encircling the sharp points catches all the gingery goodness and the spout on the edge helps in transferring juices and pulp without spillage. I grated about a 6" ginger root and could have grated more before the moat filled up. I was surprised to find the grater came with a teeny little hard plastic brush tool to aid with clearing any vegetable debris from the sharp points. It works well enough and makes it easier to get the last bits of pulp. Clean up is a snap either by hand washing or letting the automatic dishwasher do the work. Very happy with this product!

Tool that works!
I'm not a cook, my parent worked so we ate out a lot. So I am learning what I like and cooking methods. Thru subscription box roulette, I found I loved ginger and thought this would enable me using ginger root vs paste. This does ginger best, but can do garlic. Garlic sticks more in the surface and you'll lose a chunk of a clove to the shredder. You'll also need a clean brush to help. Ginger rinses off cleanly. I'm curious how else I can use this.

No more stringy ginger!
This grater is awesome. The main advantages of this grater over a microplane grater or a box grater are:1. It's much easier to apply force as you are able to use your upper body to press down on the food you are grating instead of going at it from the side, as is the case with a box grater.2. It makes a nice pulp of the food bring grated and without cutting the food. In the case of ginger for example, after grating the root on this grater, you are left with grated ginger and juice nicely collected in the ring around the grater and in your hand will be the part of the root you were holding and attached to that, the long stringy fibers in the root, not in your food. Microplanes and box graters cut the ginger, fibers and all, and don't do an excellent job of collecting the juice eitherAs long as the rubber ring on the bottom is kept dry, it is extremely grippy and won't move as long as a tiny bit of pressure is applied. One negative about the grater is the amount of food that is still left in the teeth. It's not a problem with cleaning it, because it comes right off with water. But if you actually need that food it's extremely difficult to get out without running it under water. Running a knife or other thin object through the teeth is too tedious and scrapping it off with your finger is too painful. I suppose the answer is to grate more food than you think will be necessary. If anyone has a simple solution to this minor problem, feel free to comment.

This thing is GRATE!
FANTASTIC product! Fast. Efficient. Easy to clean. I've already used this to make the most delicious strawberry lemonade and I'm always thinking of new ways to use it! It's easier than taking out the blender and works much better than a traditional grater. No wonder this has such good reviews. So glad I got the large one, but I'm still considering getting a small one just to have an extra. If you're going to spend your money in the kitchen, spend it on this.

Go for the large one for ginger!
I disagree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who said that the smaller one is much better. They both have their uses but if you mainly want this for ginger the larger one is for you!I use the smaller one mainly for fresh nutmeg and it works great for that. For decent quantities of ginger though the small one is way too small. As you are grating you keep running into the smooth trench around the edge which makes for clumsy grating and the likelihood of your fingers slipping and yes the teeth are sharp enough to grate your fingers. The teeth are closer together on the smaller one, but the teeth are also MUCH lower too, so the job takes much longer.I have included a photo of both sizes so you can see the difference. The larger one allows you to grate vigorously. The smaller one is pretty useless for ginger unless all you want is a tsp or less and even then it takes twice as long!Out of curiosity I timed myself using both graters doing it as vigorously as I could and in the same time that it took me to get 2.5 teaspoons of ginger with a large grater I was only able to get 1 teaspoon of ginger with the small grater.A handy trick I discovered if you want less of the ginger fibers is to freeze your ginger before grating. The fibers then completely break down as you grate and you are left with pulp with no strings attached :)The larger one isn’t so good for hard things like nutmeg though as the teeth dig in further and the going is much slower and it’s easier to skip off the teeth with the slickness of the nutmeg and grate your fingers. So the small one is definitely best for very hard small grating jobs (honestly I only use it for nutmeg and am a bit hard pressed coming up with anything else it would be good for)The larger one is for anything softer than nutmeg and is much more multipurpose! If you don’t grate fresh nutmeg just save yourself some money and opt for the larger one!If you grate fresh nutmeg and ginger then you really need both.I have had mine for years and there is no reduction in grating power - behold the wondrous strength of porcelain! If this review has been helpful to you would you please click the helpful button? Good Quality, Makes Life a BreeZe
I never really thought I needed one of these, but recently I've started to make more dishes that requires me to grate ginger. I have graters, and microplaners, but they a royal pain to clean up, and doesn't get it as fine as it should be. Decided to order this one after a failure to make good soup dumplings the week before. So, I have to say, that, this is the best kitchen gadget I've bought in the past year. Not only did it make grating my ginger a breeze, but I've found a new love for using this to finely grate garlic to toss into mashed potatoes or into my meatballs. This one is a good size, the rubber on the base keeps it from slipping around, and if you accidentally get too close while grating, it's not going to take you skin off, so its pretty safe to use. Clean up is a breeze, just rinse it under water and any of the fibers that stuck to the teeth wash right out.Would buy again if I ever need a replacement.

Works for garlic and ginger, easy to clean.
Works well if you need to make a ginger or garlic paste. If garlic cloves are too small, it will be tricky to use them up without risking your fingers though, but for decently sized ones it is perfect. Can be cleaned by simply putting under running hot water - much easier than a garlic press.

Elegant and efficient
As expected from a Japanese product, this grater is aesthetically pleasing, well designed (the silicon base makes it very stable on the worktop) and does the job well. It is also very easy to clean if rinsed (and, depending on what was grated, brushed) immediately after use. I have so far used it on ginger, parmesan and nutmeg, which all work fine. If anything, the parmesan comes out slightly more compacted compared to shaving it with a microplane grater because of the pressure involved (the parmesan is grated and then swept into the "moat" with the next circular movement) - but it works very well for my purposes. The trick of letting the boiling water trickle over the grater to flush out the ginger directly into the tea pot when making ginger tea is genius - I haven't tried someone else's trick of spreading cling film over the grater before grating garlic in order to make it easier to gather the garlic pulp, but it sounds sensible. The teeth of the grater are sharp, but definitely less of a risk to one's fingertips than your ordinary microplane grater.I am looking forward to using this for its intended purpose, grating daikon, and also to grating fruit and vegetables for baby food.Great product!

Excelente Producto
Es uno de mis productos favoritos, muy útil para rayar ajo y muy practico a la hora de cocinar, lo recomiendo.

Best ginger grater after trying many other graters
Easy to clean, does a great job of grating ginger and the juice collects in the base. Some recipes only require the juice so this is the only product I have found that has this feature. If ginger is young there is no need to peel, just grate peel and all.
