Erector by Meccano, 5 in 1 Roadster Pull Back Car Building Kit, for Ages 8 and up, STEM Construction Education Toy

Bought as a Christmas gift for an eight year old nephew with 5 different solid looking vehicles to construct and display. Box was much smaller than expected but if the items are as solid as it looks on the box I consider it good value. A nice change from the usual electronic toys kids seem to go for these days. Hope he likes it.

Perfect present for a 7 year-old car enthusiast

Bought as a gift for my nephew, bought the right age but nephew found it different to build, I ended up building it. The instructions were good but the type of screws were a little difficult to follow ended up ok but could have been better.

Brought for child relatives who found this fun

I brought this as MECCANO brought back memories of my past, my brother had one but not me. I wanted something to do and thought what a good idea. After working out the paperwork and I found it was easier working backwards as the drawings don't make it easy and a lot of swearing I finally got there. It does look good but next time I will be trying a crane or helecopter.

My husband had a massive stroke in August and this affected his cognitive skills and his eyesight. I bought this to try and help him and he so enjoys doing these models as they are helping him. Would highly recommend.

As an avid Lego and general building set fan, I have had a few Meccano sets in the past, but this is the first in a few years. They seem to have introduced quite a few plastic pieces, which are more flexible, but far less durable. Construction of the main model took around 2 hours, and was a bit frustrating at times, but overall enjoyable. The last step connecting the hood of the car to the bottom wasn't thought through very well, and it stops the front tyres moving most of the time. My main gripe with the plastic pieces, is that they break easily. I tested the cars pullback motor for the first time, and while fast, it bumped into a chest of drawers, and one of the plastic pieces snapped completely. While the set still uses a lot of metal pieces, there is a lot of plastic as well, which is not durable, as I now cannot build the other four models.Overall, great value, good fun, and will teach kids and grown ups alike some very basic engineering skills. Just wish the plastic was more durable!
