Blade and shaft very solid handle not so much
I do not think these are a good choice for beginners because the technique for use are different. Traditional chisels you need to learn to "ride the bevel" and this takes practice! These chisels you will use a different technique, tool rest at center line or slightly below tool at about 90degrees to the work piece. These carbide chisels are more scraping then shaving. If you get "off line" just at little they catch very easily big gouge or chip out of work piece. I recommend starting with traditional tools then incorporating these into your repertoire. Sharpening lathe tools is something of a skill set on its own, replaceable carbide is easier for sure, but learning to sharpen your own tools is always a good idea. CONSTRUCTION: The shafts and carbide tips feel very solid, you can feel this as soon as pick them up! The handle is aluminum: very light, for cap and shaft holder, threads are coarse, does not screw together smoothly for shaft holder and end cap. The shaft holder came loose in a couple minutes of use. this happened a few times. Tried a pipe wrench with rubber jaws to tighten it, still came loose. Finally put some Teflon tape on the threads this seemed to work. then the cap fell off the other end, Teflon tape there too. The handle is a little too small for my hand, but that is purely a personal preference. Grip tape may fix that! Overall, a decent set of carbide lathe chisels. A good first set to try to see if you like carbide chisels. They come in a fitted case that looks like something from a spy movie for carrying computer chips or Bio weapons. At the cost if just one or two fit your needs I say you come out ahead.

Good high quality wood turning set
I been doing wood turning for about a year now, so definitely not an expert, but this is a good starter set if you are looking dab into wood turning. It has all the basic tools to get started. I really like build quality of the materials and good precision of metal carbide tips. Tips have held up well which is not the case when you are buying at this price point. I really like simple and easy they are to swtich out of the handles. The only thing I wish this set have is more carbide tips, they are super simple to remove but it would be my dream set if included a couple more tips. Overall, it is still an amazing set for this price point.

Great Value
I have not had the opportunity to use all the features of this turning tool set but so far all I can say is this set seems to be a fantastic value. Rikon has a very similar set but at nearly twice the price. The cuts I have made were smoothe and efficient, the fit and finish is very good as is the feel of the tools while in use. If there are no durability issues about the only improvement I can reccommend is to replace the two set screws locking the tool shaft in place with a toolless locking mechanism. Needing a separate tool to change tool shaft can be a minor inconvienience. Still a superior value for the price.

Nice starter set
It came packaged well. Tips all appear to be sharp. Downside there are inner burrs inside the tube handle that keep the tool tips from inserting into the handle.. just a bit sloppy and therefore rendering my set unusable until I clean that out myself. Not a big deal for me but may be for others that don’t have the skill or know how to clean out the thread burrs. It may have been an oversight in quality control on my set. Some of the threads seem a bit loose and I worry that could be a problem for the long term. Time will tell. Overall a pretty good set for the price point!

Great Case!
I gave this as a gift and receiver was impressed with the case and variety of tools. Unsure of quality as of yet because it was a gift but seems to be great!

Good cut, good control.
Using these tools currently to turn some 2 1/2 inch square granadillo into rounded and hollowed stock that will then be hand carved into draft pulls. So far these tools have given a nice smooth finish on the cut. The handles adjust easily and hold firm. Make sure your rest is nice and smooth and the neck of the tool will stay perfectly flat. Get a set of spare tips, it’s better to have them on hand and not need them than it is to need them and not have them. The handle extension swivels so you don’t have to slide your hand over it to keep the blade flat.
