Best Low Phos Cat Food
This is the best low phosphorus urinary tract diet cat food that I've found so far. It tends to get negative reviews, and I will admit, my cat doesn't exactly gobble it down. I imagine it's like having a healthy chicken breast versus a Chic-Fil-A sandwich in human terms... BUT! HERE'S WHY I think this cat food is the best I've come across. It doesn't have fillers like corn or wheat. Underline and bold that! And it's made with muscle meat, rather than cooking down meat with bones and all. Eliminating bones helps reduce the phosphorus levels. My cat does need coaxing to eat it. I grind up senior kibble and sprinkle it on the top. And I sprinkle some eggshell powder to add back in calcium lost by feeding muscle meat. The important reasons I use the Wx is that he is getting a more species specific diet, and in one year, he went from upward trending mild kidney disease at 2.4 to completely healthy at 1.6. And even though he doesn't always gobble it down, having healthy kidney function is the most important reason I feed him this. A note on the other prescription canned foods if you're interested: The expensive mainstream cat food brand's first ingredients are corn and wheat. And my original vet would tell me over and over that it's tested and scientifically proven... but cats aren't built to digest corn or wheat, it's not species appropriate. It's also a known inflammatory and allergen. Its cheap filler to lower the phosphorus levels and charged with a premium price. Also something to consider, the American Vet Association is funded by many of the mainstream brands... I tried an expensive mainstream label at the direction of a vet when he was first diagnosed 3 years ago. It made my cat belchy, gassy, and he had the stinkiest poops. I worked with another vet with continued education in feline nutrition, and she helped me navigate his diet. He is now in a healthy range.

Chicken fiend with CKD loves this!!!
Our nearly seventeen-year-old cat has spent his whole life begging for/trying to steal chicken off our plates. He had a pretty rapid loss of weight and appetite several months ago, and we learned he had chronic kidney disease, which was both surprising and scary, because he didn’t have signs of it at his checkup (with bloodwork) six months prior. He needed a low phosphorus diet, and he needed to gain back some weight, but the only food he seemed interested in was chicken. He was NOT interested in prescription renal care food, and he wouldn’t eat anything with phosphate binder powder mixed in. He lost more weight. When I saw a review for Weruva phos-focused chicken in gravy which said it was the closest thing the reviewer found to chicken they cooked themselves, I thought it was worth trying. THEY WERE RIGHT!!! It looks like shreds of chicken in broth. And our ole guy loves it!!! He also loves the chicken purée, which is kind of like a Churu in texture. He’s doing so much better now, and the vet said she loves the quality of Weruva cat food. She also said that the phosphorus levels in his blood had actually dropped (which doesn’t usually happen for cats with CKD). He’s eating other low phosphorus foods now, and some of his prescription food, too! He’s stopped losing weight and just seems happier. I know all cats have different tastes, but for our little chicken fiend, the Weruva phos-focused chicken in gravy was the key to getting him interested in eating again. Since CKD is a progressive disease, I want him to have as many happy moments as possible without putting too much strain on his kidneys—and this food makes him happy. (His brother/littermate and our picky three-year-old cat also love to lick up any of the Weruva that he leaves behind—so that’s also an endorsement for the taste!)

Sadly, cat doesn't love it
Bought these to try for my cat that has kidney disease. Love the small can sizes, simple ingredients, and that it's low phosphorous for cats with renal issues. I'm always hoping to find a non-prescription cat food that's kidney disease friendly. Unfortunately my cat would only eat about half a can of the puree and he wouldn't eat the chicken in the gravy cans. He downed the "gravy" but wouldn't eat any of the long chicken strings in it. He's finicky with textures. I was happy to be able to try a variety pack rather than having to try two different packs individually, but sadly now I'm still left with a bunch of cans of food that my cat won't eat.

Loved it!
My old cats loved it! Even my finicky girl. She struggled with the shreds, but kept trying. Was able to hide meds for old boy too!

Taste and smell not great
My cat wasn’t crazy about the taste but ate it. It smelled bad after sitting out for more than an hour. It was pretty expensive for the amount of food we got

Cats didn't like it at all
I bought this for my 16yr old cat who is having kidney issues. neither him nor my 3 year old would eat it. They are not picky eaters, but maybe this was too bland for them. It appears to be shredded chicken with broth. I didn't smell it though. I wish I could return the unopened cans for a refund. I only used 2.
