All nine episodes from the third and fourth seasons of the crime drama set in the picturesque county of Midsomer, where Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby (John Nettles) is continually reminded that beneath the tranquil surface of village life exists a disturbing propensity for murder. Episodes are: 'Dead Man's Eleven', 'Blue Herrings', 'Judgement Day', 'Death of a Stranger', 'Garden of Death', 'Destroying Angel', 'The Electric Vendetta', 'Who Killed Cock Robin?' and 'Dark Autumn'.

Midsomer still as dark and quirky as ever!!!!
I have just finished watching this complete series 3 & 4 boxset of Midsomer and it is still as enjoyable as ever. As mentioned on my review for the complete series 1 & 2 I decided to take the plunge to purchase the DVD's due to the older episodes being shown on ITV3 at Christmas/New year but a lot of content had been edited out which is a shame. This could of been down to a number of reasons. The early series and episodes of Midsomer were probably not as politically correct as maybe they are now and maybe there was more violence , but I haven't watched the show since John Nettles left so am not 100% sure. There are some fantastic actors and actresses in the show and watching their characters engage in quirky village life is excellent. The way some of them look down on poor DCI Barnaby sometimes is just so English with the different classes on show. Luckily he can give as good as he gets and takes them down a peg or two. DS Troy is still his usual bumbling self with his erratic driving and choice of the English language which needs to be reined in sometimes as it can be seen as offensive especially more so now. He is still learning and Barnaby does seem to make fun of him at times but they make a great team. This DVD set again has no subtitles to speak of and I did notice the sound quality on some of the episodes is better than others so had to turn the TV up quite a bit. John Nettles as much as I love him does have a tendency to mumble or talk very softly sometimes which I struggle with. A very good double series pack with fantastic story telling and atmosphere. There is no county like Midsomer and the chocolate box villages, Manor Houses and charming countryside where they film the show is what I love most about our fantastic country. Grab a cup of tea and a slice of cake and enjoy.

Aspect ratio
Good as expected. (Have only watched disk one so far.) But loaded disk 2 to check something: The aspect ratio of contents is neither 4:3 0r 16:9 But actually 14:9. Tried to set up my player to get best display. But when played - The screen always displayed black bars Top/Bottom/Left/Right. I am fussy. So find this very annoying. But if you can accept this !. Then enjoy.NOTE: have only played contents of first disk, Todate.RMF

More Midsomer Murders, in duplicate...
Just a word of advice to Barnaby fans thinking of buying this box set - most or all of the episodes will be found in the First or Second Collection box sets. Highly recommended for those not lucky enough to have bought the "Collections". Chief Inspector Barnaby and his slow-witted Sergeant Troy investigate whatever murder and mayhem Midsomer provides - and it does provide a great deal of murder and mayhem! The scenery is as idyllic, and Joyce Barnaby's cooking as bad as ever. Buy and enjoy but check the episode titles first.

Grasp the Nettle.
Watched the original series on TV but then lost interest as it seemed to be the murder capital of the world...how can so many murders happen in such a small area. After watching an episode on TV for the first time in ten years we thoroughly enjoyed the show and decided to purchase the box sets. Yes you can usually guess who has committed the murder but the scenery and cottage are out of this world. The range of famous actors used in the series' shows you how highly it is regarded by the acting community. I would recommend this to any fan of the detective genre.

Murderd In A Country Setting.
I love the Midsomer Murders early series 1, 2, 3, and 4. The plot lines are fantastic and there is a wealth of famous actors to spot. My favourite ever episodes are The killing at Badger's Drift, Written in Blood, Death of a Hollow Man, Strangler's Wood, Blood will Out, Destroying Angel and many more. The episode with the Rainbirds is wonderful! I hope that other people enjoy these epidodes as much as I have. Put the dvd on, switch off the lights, make yourself comfortable and enjoy!

Excellent entertainment
The usual great entertainment from this series - intriguing (if highly improbable!) plots, likeable main protagonists, glorious English countryside. What's not to like? To clarify previous comments about "duplication" of episodes, if you buy all the Series, from One and Two onwards, you will see all the episodes broadcast over the years. The "Collections" (one of which I initially purchased) contain random selections of episodes. Much better if you are a fan of Midsomer to purchase the "series" editions.
