Basics Fashion Design 01: Research and Design: Second Edition

I am currently attending school for fashion and this is one of the required texts for me class. Although this was required for the class, I have found that we may not use it as often as I would like. I also purchased the companion workbook and they are both relatively good. I mean, if I have to purchase a textbook, I would expect to use it regularly. Essentially, I imagine I will hold onto this book to add to my library for future reference and usage. This purchase was affordable so that is a definite (and most important) plus.

I graduated from one of the top fashion schools and realized that this book open my eyes even further to research and design. It's written for the serious fashion person: who has had training and wants to learn more. It explains various ways to research for your collection and how other designers work in their croquis books. Even if you did graduate from fashion school, this book shows you more possibilities in design. The price is good, so what are you waiting for?

This book was poorly written. It lacked good content and definitely sounds like it was someone who didn't have reader in mind.

This was a required text for one of my design classes. It's an okay text for novices, and it's got some interesting images and interviews in it, it's basically just a road map for ideating. Full of obvious suggestions like "go to the library and read books," "draw inspiration from films," "make a moodboard." Some of the textbooksy semantic information in it is really subjective/unimportant. (I.e. tries to assign unnecessarily specific definitions to terms like "abstract design.") I guess it might be convenient to have all this how-to design-process information laid out in front of you in a book in case you're suffering from creative block, but some of it just doesn't seem to be worth having been written down really.

It's like having your own fashion tutor in a book.Great advice and help with the early stage of fashion designing, the interviews are great and gives an insight into real life fashion scenarios.Would recommend.

The book makes some interesting points which I've found very helpful, would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to know how to research properly.
