Do these penclis erase easily without smudging?

I bought these pencils as a gift for a friend...I noticed his work when he was erasing...but I saw no smudge marks.

What do the numbers followed by a B or an H mean

i love the pensils, but no case... i also ordered compact and portable sketch folio which has a case and i use that set often, theres even an area for erasers etc.
