Ryobi OCS1830 18V ONE+ Cordless Brushless Chainsaw – Ideal for Light Tasks with the Right Battery
Ryobi OCS1830 18V ONE+ Cordless Brushless Chainsaw – Ideal for Light Tasks with the Right BatteryThe Ryobi OCS1830 18V ONE+ Cordless Brushless Chainsaw is a handy tool for small-scale cutting tasks. Its 30 cm (12-inch) bar and chain, powered by an 18V brushless motor, deliver efficient performance for pruning and light-duty jobs.Performance: This chainsaw is well-suited for light cutting tasks, such as pruning branches and cutting small logs. However, its performance is closely tied to the battery used. For optimal results, it's recommended to use a 4.0Ah or, preferably, a 5.0Ah battery. These higher-capacity batteries provide the necessary power and longer runtime to handle multiple cuts effectively. Using lower-capacity batteries may result in reduced performance and shorter operational periods.Design and Features: The chainsaw features an automatic oiling system, ensuring consistent lubrication of the chain during operation. The tool-less chain tensioning mechanism allows for quick and easy adjustments, enhancing user convenience. Additionally, the mechanical chain brake adds an extra layer of safety by stopping the chain promptly in case of kickback.Pros:Lightweight and easy to handle, making it suitable for beginners and occasional users.Part of the Ryobi ONE+ system, allowing battery compatibility with other Ryobi tools.Quiet operation compared to petrol-powered chainsaws, with no emissions.Cons:Limited to light-duty tasks; not suitable for heavy or prolonged cutting jobs.Performance is heavily dependent on using higher-capacity batteries (4.0Ah or 5.0Ah and above).Batteries and charger are often sold separately, adding to the overall cost if not already owned. Conclusion: The Ryobi OCS1830 18V ONE+ Cordless Brushless Chainsaw is a practical choice for small jobs requiring a few cuts, especially when equipped with a 4.0Ah or 5.0Ah battery. Its user-friendly design and compatibility with the Ryobi ONE+ system make it a convenient addition for those already invested in Ryobi's cordless tool lineup. However, for more demanding tasks, a more powerful chainsaw may be necessary.

Great bit of kit
I know ryobi gets a bit of stick but it does what it does. My ryobi impact wrench does not compete with my dewalt one but it's smaller so fits into spaces in my car that I couldn't get the big one. The same goes for this chainsaw. It won't compete with better ones and definitely wouldn't come close to my stilh petrol one but it's very convenient with no fiddling with carbs and mixes to get it started. It rips through firewood no problem and doesn't take up much room in the car. Another bonus is that it's very quiet compared to my petrol one so I can collect firewood from the local woods without disturbing anyone. It does absolutely tank the 5ah batteries that I have if I'm using it a lot but for basic pruning etc it's perfect. If you just want to use it at home for chopping lots I'd recommend a 240v one however but for portability this is great.

Leaks like slaughtered pig / Cuts like hell
Word of wisdom: the end of the instruction shows to empty oil tank to the small canister provided with it (DON'T THROW IT AWAY!), follow that to the letter. Otherwise you'll have oil spills everywhere. My other Black&Decker chainsaw on pole holds oil much better. Ryobi: field for improvement, hence one star less.Battery powered tools like this has tendency to be quite weak and not being able to do harder jobs. This one is surprisingly performant and if you follow guides of cutting so the chain is not pressed it cuts like hell. It's not suitable for a full size tree, but deals well with arm thick branches. This comes at cost of battery draining. I have 3 working Ryobi batteries, but only 1 Lithium+ model and only this one works with that chainsaw. Older type would start unloaded, but will not cut - not enough power available. Keep that in mind in planning your battery use: 2.5Ah battery was enough for about 20 thick cuts.At the price (£149) I'm satisfied with the product, however, at original price it would be way too expensive for the capabilities and limitations.

very safe tool
RYOBI come up trumps again very good piece of kit easy to assemble like the chain tension and lock in feature also the chain brake handle very pleased the 12 inch blade just what i need as have 6 inch blade but does not do the job as well as this tool also cuts very easy and you do not need a lot of pressure whilst cutting

Definitely a Best Buy
I was a bit uncertain about ordering this, as I feared it might not be tough enough for my use. I need not have worried. I love this saw! For years I cut my own firewood with a Stihl petrol saw, but those days are gone, and I no longer need a saw for such heavy work. This saw is light, quiet and so easy to handle. It has cut down and bucked up a few 8 inch diameter trees with no problem, but where it really shines is those jobs around the garden where a hand saw is a lot of work but a big chain saw is too awkward. I've had it for over a year now and used it frequently with no complaints whatsoever. Obviously it can't replace a petrol saw for heavy work, but for everyday jobs around a large garden it is an absolute pleasure to use.
