Death Note: Volume 1

Two men, equally mentally matched are locked in a fight against each other for justice. The mysterious genius L works for the police as an independant investigator trying to get to the bottom of the apparently natural heart attacks affecting the world's worst criminals. Light is the student with the Death Note book writing the names of the criminals on the pages making them die. He alone is deciding who will live or die in a harsh world that he wants to protect, while L is hot on his trail to stop him. The mind games played out between the two men will have you on the edge of your seat and Ryuk, the shinigami (death god) provides a great deal of comic relief to relax you in tense moments. It's a slick story with twists and turns that leave you wondering who's side you're on. Not your typical martial arts/sword fighting Manga but I urge you to try this one, I guarantee you'll be hooked if you do.This is my first Manga novel but I have tried others since picking up Death Note 1 and they just don't have the pace of this story. Death Note starts with a bang and continues that way, like a literary fireworks night. I am now on volume 5 and have not been disappointed yet. There are no slow moving sections in the story, only parts that make you wonder... "What's he up to now?"

I'm pretty selective over my graphic novels, and therefore am even more selective over my Manga. You see for me, I dont personally go for the wizards and goblins stuff in the GN genre. Likewise, in Manga, I'm not a big fan of the swords and quests type stuff. To be honest, that whittles out a lot of the easily available Manga to me!Death Note however just hits the spot for me. Sure, a basic supernatural type basis behind the story, but to be honest its just a great crime thriller.I'm on book 4 now and its getting better and better.Book 1 arrived through the door early on Sat morning, I took the post upstairs, opened the book and read it all the way through...Exceptionally well drawn, and superb, clever dialogue (great translation)Love the little snippets on page 1 from the author too!Everyone should read this

After getting over the first initial confusion of how the book worked, "THE BOOK IS BACKWARDS?!?!? WHAT IS THIS MAGIC?", I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and look forward to purchasing the rest. I have since gone on to watch the Anime of the same name.

Re-reading some manga due to staying indoors all day. This is a great beginner friendly manga, that will slowly suck you in. The story starts out not too intimidation, but develops nicely. I liked the characters, and the main character develops nicely. The art style is really nice and sharp, a good bit different than most manga's, this mangaka definitely has his own unique style.Superficially these covers are great too, and the set would look great on any bookshelf!

I love it so much I have had it for a day and I'm already half way through it! For anyone who doesn't know what Death Note this is a brief summary of the first manga : A High School student called Light Yagami finds a book called Death Note and basically if you write a persons name down while thinking of their face they will die and btw there is many other rules for the Death Note and so Light starts to kill criminals while a detective called L tries to find out who is doing the killings.

The book itself came in really good condition, and I enjoyed reading it, highly recommend it. :D

This was my first experience reading a manga novel. I had watched the Deathnote film a few years ago but only just got round to reading the book. The quality of the writing is what grabbed me the most, as with other anime I've seen (well, Full Metal Alchemist), the storylines are so original, and just that good. I blistered through the book in a few hours and then bought the second and third volumes.

Death note is a really good anime, and the manga is even better! Reading Light interact with the world is fun, and the art style is great!

Story line is superb which I knew beforehand. Page and print quality is fine.

内容的に難しい用語も出てくる上、バイリンガルコミックスのように日本語での解説や和訳はありませんので、上級レベルくらいじゃないとサラサラ読めないかもしれません。原作そのまま対訳という感じなので、既に日本語版のコミックスを持っていて、照らし合わせながら読み、こういうときネイティブはこう表現するんだなーと眺めるのも良いかなぁと思いました。
