Brilliant cat door ,it is in the living room ,I bought this brand to replace the same brand door I bought many many years ago which lasted over 15 years . Great cat door easy to fit ,instructions easy to follow .my cat can now easily potter off from the living room to the kitchen and outside through her other staywell cat door .

Perfect replacement for one that I cracked (must be 15 years old or more but fit in same holes and able to buy 18mm extension tube too. Thanks!

Over twenty years ago I had a Staywell cat flap in an interior door. After the cats had departed the mortal coil, I removed the main part of the flap and covered with it with a panel. I recently rescued new cats and needed to fit a new flap. I was quite astonished to find the Staywell flap was still available and I bought this classic one as it seemed to be the best match for the rear part that was still attached. I was even more astonished to find that this flap exactly fits the hole - the instructions in this modern version instruct you to cut out a rectangle, but the original instructions must have had me cut out a curved shape the exact size of the tunnel. And fortunately the new tunnel fit that cut perfectly, and the screw holes of the back plate are in the exact same position. Installation is very easy, although I suppose I'm lucky the size of the tunnel exactly matches the depth of the door. There are a couple of niggles - for one thing the magnet seems very strong. One of my cats was fine with it, but the other cat couldn't, or wouldn't, use it and would either push the entire door open or claw it open, depending on what side of the door she was on. I ended up removing the strip completely from the flap, and she will now use it, most of the time. Of course without a magnet the thing flaps around like the clappers whenever I open the door. The second niggle is the seeming odd placement of the lock - screw holes are on one side, lock on the other. So if you were installing this on an exterior door, either the lock would be outside or the screw holes would be. Seems an odd design to me. However, as this is fit on an interior door it is no real issue. I haven't tried the locking functionality. Nor have a tested the durability of the flap - the old cats were known to hit flaps at such speed they went right through them, cartoon mode. I replaced a lot of broken flaps in those days... the new rescues aren't at that stage... yet. Overall, it is a cat flap and works absolute fine. I'm delighted with the fact that I can get the same model as I did 20 odd years ago.

Second one I have had, last one lasted almost 13 years before needing replacing so quality is good. Easy to fit.

This is the 2nd cat flap I’ve fitted since my cats died so it should have been a simple replacement of the broken one in my back door, oh no, the holes were in the right place but the 3 halves would not screw onto each other because the metal connector for the screws slipped. I rectified matters with a little sellotape to stop the sliding and all is fine now - simple and cheap fix to a draughty cat flap !

I've been using these Staywell manual cat flaps for years, with a variety of cats. I've tried the versions with magnets to restrict entry to my own cats, but frankly I'm not enthusiastic about collars for cats and the magnets seem very weighty. The kind that recognise microchips seem to be quite effective according to the reviews, but I would always be worried that something might go wrong leaving the cat unable to get in in a hurry - especially since my cowardly cats rush through the flap at ridiculous speeds whenever a huge predator (like next door's cat) is after them. So in the end the manual type seems to be the simplest and most secure to me. The downside is of course that other cats can also come through - and they do. But the locking mechanism means that you have some control over your cats' movements. I find the flap does get broken relatively easily (though as I've said my cats do batter through it). On the whole I probably end up replacing it every two or three years. But this drawback is also one of the good things about this particular flap. The same measurements have been used for at least fifteen years and hopefully will continue to be in the future. This makes replacing a simple matter - generally I just replace the bit that's broken rather than removing the whole thing. Usually it takes a matter of minutes and really couldn't be much easier. The rubber seal works well when the flap is newish and keeps draughts at bay. It does tend to get either loose or decayed over time though, and is one of the things that leads to frequent replacing. All of my cats have liked having the ability to look through the flap - it seems to make them feel more secure if they can see what's outside before they venture out. Overall for the simplicity and ease of replacement, not to mention that it's reasonably priced, I recommend this flap highly and have only deducted the star because I do feel it can get damaged a bit too easily.

It's sturdy and easy to use but if you have a door that isn't quite thin you will have to be a little bit crafty since there's no spacer included.

Gute Verarbeitung, sehr praktikabel, gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis und glücklicherweise schon seit langem immer wieder (nach-) bestellbar. Auch Einzelteile können praktisch ausgetauscht werden. Wir haben diese Katzenklappe nun schon zum dritten Mal und sind sehr zufrieden. Die Klappe wurde schnell geliefert. Die Katzen nutzen sie intuitiv schnell richtig. Prima! Man muss sich aber bewußt sein, dass es eine "einfache" Klappe ohne Chiperkennung ist.

As for many years already, still the best cat door. Easy, no electronics, just works.

Franchement plutôt simple a installer dans une porte vitrée. En 15/20 min c’était installé, dans la partie pleine isolante de la porte. Elle est bien étanche avec la fermeture magnétique. Je recommande et le chat aussi :)
