Bought June 2021Date of review Sept 2022Had these hanging outside (South Chicagoland area) for over a year now and they still come on when the sun goes down. They have survived a brutal Chicago winter with no damage or falling apart and still work.I always had them on "flame" mode and really like it. It isn't real bright but I can't say for the other mode. There were a couple times during the last 12 -14 monthes where one or the other swithed modes, maybe during a windy day. But I did nothing and it returned to "flame" mode by the next evening.For me these are more for aesthetics (in "flame"mode) which is fine for me.I would buy another set (for in front of my detatched garage) so I decided they were worthy of a review.But I guess the rating depends on what you're using them for. So,I gave them a 5 star because I use them for aesthetics.

My friends and I went camping this past weekend, but there were VERY strict fire restrictions in place. No fire at all, no charcoal grills, nothing. We wanted to have some sort of light so we could see each other while we sat around chatting and drinking beers, but we didn't necessarily want bright blue-ish LEDs glaring in our faces all night long. We brought 4 of these bad boys and put them in the center of our little circle - on the "flame" setting, they perfectly captured the effect of having a real campfire with a warm, flickery glow. The best part? No smoke, no clean-up. I also liked using mine on the LED light setting - it glowed a bit brighter and was great for seeing in the dark so I could quickly change clothes or go to the bathroom in the woods, however, I wouldn't rely on this for an actual true light source. Get yourself a real camping lantern if you need illumination to see well (like for food preparation or for reading or something like that). I took off a star because the black 'wires' that cross in front of the frosted glass left black scratch marks that I can't get off.

The media could not be loaded.  We bought these to decorate our Wild West chicken coop. They are great! It takes a minute to figure out the dial to switch between flame/regular light. You pretty much have to just play with the dial. But it works well for what we were needing! It creates the ambiance I was looking for!

The good: I really like the flame effect and the ambiance these create. They remind me of old pirates lights, or those you’d find deep in an old mine. Perfect for giving odd effect based light in our outdoor tiki bar!The bad: one of the lanterns has already stopped working completely. We used it maybe 3-4 times? It was keep outside, but under our covered porch so there is zero reason it should have died so quickly. Hoping the remaining light lasts a lot longer.

Am absolutely delighted with this item!! Two light choices: lower light 'white' LED and flickering 'amber' that's 'realistic' enough that people asked me if it was actual flame. Bright enough to cast illumination several feet around lamp. Keeps a solar charge for a long time, light weight, super simple to operate. Finished with a deep bronze patina that easily goes with many styles; steampunk, old american west, country chic, tiki, etc. . I have kept one outside for many summer months, thru sun & rain and it still works as perfectly as the one kept indoors. Very Happy with this Item and would Def buy again, if i hadnt already purchased 4.
