Death Note: Complete Series And Ova Collection

Death Note (Box Set) - Fine anime.
This is a long series (37 episodes) and the first episode didn't really fill me with enthusiasm. However, as an anime fan I continued to watch it, and was surprised at how quickly it hooked me after that. The plot is clever, gripping and generally well structured, while unexpected twists make it seldom predictable. It does fall away from these initial high standards during some of the latter episodes, but the quality of the series as a whole is little diminished, The dialogue is intelligent and both it, and the occasional narrative information, display a subtle, often dry and sometimes flippant sense of humour. I should say here that I almost always watch anime in Japanese with English subtitles - I don't know what the dubbed version is like. The characters are intriguing, plausible and often react to events in unexpected ways which are, nevertheless, consistent with their character. The animation and character drawing is certainly competent, although for general scenes fairly basic and unremarkable - one of the reasons I didn't get into it straight away. However this only serves to highlight the high quality when they pull out all the stops, which they do quite regularly, both for lengthy scenes, and for short, intriguing actions or camera angles. The artwork has a similar approach, and varies from the unremarkable to the superb. The soundtrack is good, and although the opening song is not to my taste (but there's no accounting for taste) the rest of the music is well-chosen.This is good quality entertainment - as good if not better than most television drama.

Death Note
Great story but that’s not what these reviews should be about. Product came undamaged, with an options for English dub, English subtitling on Japanese audio, or just plain Japanese audio. Each disc case (9 total) has a fun image of a character or two which pertains to who is focused on in the episodes on each disc.Good product.

Love this series so much!
Arrived on time, just as described - glad I checked through the reviews first though because sure enough there was no art booklet as some had described, but others had said this was a limited gift that is no longer produced, so I wasn't expecting it.This series is just brilliant - the story is so gripping, the art and animation is stunning (brilliant, because so is the manga!), and it's not really short like some series are from being cancelled or running out of the original manga. So much better quality than watching it online like I did the first time round (we don't get too much anime on tv or in shops here) its great with our surround sound, and doesn't look odd on our big widescreen TV like some other animes do, I've noticed. If you haven't seen it I would recommend it - especially as an introduction to anime - it was one of the first series I watched and it got me hooked!Well worth the price too.

Shockingly Brilliant If You Dont Like Anime This Will Change Your Mind
(Wish this series would come out on a big Blu-Ray boxset)First i will start off with this anime is a Masterpiece! It is the most powerfull, gripping, episodic series i have ever seen.I have friends that literally walk out the room when i put animation on the tv they hate it so much but when they eventually sat down to watch this they all changed thier minds begging me to let them see the next episode.i cant really rate this highly enough, i have seen alot of anime which sometimes make me hold the question why was this even made its so boring or the storyline is going no where, but Deathnote is utterly fantastic! The soundtrack is incredible best i have heard in an anime. The boxset comes with 9 volumes 37 episodes all together, some boxsets come with the booklet (mine did) some dont and bonus featurres. ENGLISH DUBBED and also in Japeneseim not going to go on about what its about check out other reviews for that :)Its About Light Yagami, a student who comes accross a Notebook with Deathnote on the front inside it has the rules of the deathnote long story short you write someones name in it they die. There are so many twists and turns in this.i dont want to write to much about it as you really just need to watch it. i promise you, you will not have seen anything as gripping as this, trust me.I personally prefer the English dubb i dont really see the point in watching it in another language with subtitles but thats just me.The englsih dubb is just as good or in my opinion better than the japanese version but each to thier own.Basically as long as your old enough you will appreciate how brilliant this is from any age over 15.I am sure like the rest of us i hope Hollywood doesnt Destroy this stunning series.I am just a huge fan of this and reccomend this to anyone, thanks for reading.

Clever and engaging. Spoiler alert here perhaps...
I am fairly new to anime, coming to this by way of Black Butler, Fullmetal Alchemist and Yuri on Ice and I have enjoyed this a lot despite being disappointed with the death of a major character but at least this dismay means that I did engage with some characters. The Shimigami are excellent as are Light, L and Near as they become 3 dimensional with their own foibles. When Near gets his turn to play Sherlock Holmes(metaphorically), he strategises while playing with toys on the floor and interestingly reminds us so much of his (Brother?) without the relationship being clearly stated.Sometimes I have a problem with high pitched screaming female voices in anime. I couldn't watch Fairytale for this reason. However Misa is ok and I had sympathy for her despite some dumb moves!I will say that the show comes to the brink of stabbing itself in the foot with its own cleverness when the rules of the Deathnote become so complicated during the second half of the set but it does stick to its own rules so in the end I decided that this meant a second watching is warranted rather than just feeling frustrated.Definitely recommended if you enjoy a complex story that you have to concentrate on and where characters are not always black and white but display light and dark sides.
