The diameter of the actual hose is 14mm and the thread is 20mm

Q: What are the threaded connector ends made of?

They aren't plastic anyway. Feels a good quality item! Sturdy fit.

Q: What size are the connector ends? My existing shower riser is 25mm at it's largest point, where the hose slots in to it.

They are 1/2” BSP, this is a standard size on virtually all showers and from your measurements it’ll fit without any problems

Q: Can someone pls tell me what a mash washer is, what it does and why you would choose it over a normal washer?

The mash (or 'crush') washer is a rubber compound which compresses to form a better seal than a standard washer - most shower hoses are fitted with mash washers with integral debris filters.
