Whether you’re a beginner of jewelry making or wire work I highly recommend this comprehensive book. Lots of details, pictures and instructions. I recently purchased it for someone interested in learning about jewelry making. I’m sure they will find it an invaluable reference.

I would have given it more stars except the information that's in the book could be a little more indepth. I have to say that a spiral bound book is so much easier to use, so I'll be looking more toward spiral bound as I purchase.

Excellent book for beginners.

I’m definitely a rank beginner in the jewelry making department. I’ve only tried a couple of pieces in my lifetime and they were more in the line of braided bracelets. This book is geared toward wire wraps, a craft I’ve often seen, but primarily commercially made. There are some needed supplies, all of which are listed in the first chapter. For example, you’ll need wire of assorted gauges, wire, cutters, pliers, files, a hammer and bench block, etc.If you don’t care to pick up a tool or two at a time, you may wish to purchase a comprehensive kit. I’d recommend the Shynek Jewelry Making Kit for Adults, a kit that can be used for wire wrap jewelry as well as other styles. This is a clickable link that will take you to the kit, something you can check out before even considering the purchase of this book.Materials and techniques for creating wire wrapped jewelry are covered nicely. Of course, having a creative, artistic bent does help, but isn’t required. There are plenty of eye-popping photographs, step-by-step instructions, and tips. For example, there are sidebars that are entitled PRO TIP, MAKE IT YOUR OWN, TROUBLESHOOTING TIP, and just plain old TIP. I do love an instructional that covers all the basics.I didn’t want this book for myself, but rather as a gift for my daughter-in-law, who does have a marvelous creative side. She’s attempted jewelry making on a small basis and her results can only improve with a tutorial such as this one. In the back of the book is a list of online supply resources, and a comprehensive index. I do love this book and think it’s perfect for the beginner, especially with twenty projects one can create.

Learned a lot about wrapped wire jewelry and wire types. Pictures of what you are to do was very helpful. Enjoyed several designs.

My mom did a lot of jewelry making, starting long after I had left home. She did amazing work, and I really should have made an opportunity for her to teach me how. I do know a bit about making jewelry, just from asking her questions about the pieces she was wearing, or the items she gifted to me. But certainly not enough to actually make anything myself.I saw this book at a point where I was feeling particularly nostalgic and wanting to feel closer to her again.I am quite impressed. This book is not assuming that you know much at all about jewelry making, so it starts with great descriptions of the tools you'll need, and then gives wonderful step-by-step instruction on some basic techniques. You are getting the chance to actually make something while learning the basics too.And they teach you to make your own findings. That is something I really appreciate with the jewelry from Mom -- I really love the clasps she made.The book continues with teaching new techniques and including nice projects that use those techniques. The photos really show what you are supposed to do, and the descriptions are easy to understand and not overly complex.I'd rather learn from my mother, but this book may be more patient!

I tend to be conservative when I do my review ratings. I reserve my 5 star ratings for items that I feel are above and beyond the average. And this book definitely deserves 5 stars. It is well written The Author Lisa Yang covers the basics, The tools are identified and a description of what they are used for is given. The terns are listed with a definition of what they mean so that you can pretty much follow any pattern. The book has a lot of pictures showing how to bend the wire and what is needed to make the different pieces of jewelry, The steps are easy to follow. The patterns that are included have a skill rating and gives a time estimate about how long the project may take. The book is not that big but it is packed with a lot of good information to get you started on making your own wire wrapped Jewelry. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about Wire wrap Jewelry making.
