It just works!
Having read of the many potential pitfalls people can experience with Thunderbolt docks, I was a little nervous about hooking this up to my Dell XPS 9365. I have 2 Dell monitors (U2415 & U2414H) daisy-chained via DP and these can be a bit iffy, at times. The monitors need to be connected with a full DP connector to PC, not a mini-DP. Even when correctly hooked up, the screens can go black for a second or two every once in a while. So, when this arrived, I took my time setting it up. I was pleasantly surprised that no drivers needed to be installed. Then, connected dock to laptop, switched on ... and a bit of an anticlimax, really, it just worked. My triple monitor setup (2 monitors plus laptop) didn't need any adjustment and haven't fickered black once since I installed this a week ago. When external drives are connected to this dock, wireless file transfer is speedier, which is an unexpected bonus.I've daisy-chained the USB connectors on the monitors, too. So, though this box doesn't have a wealth of extra ports, I have enough for my needs (laptop, 2 monitors, external hard drive, various USB peripherals). I have the 2 front usb connectors free for use when necessary. At sale price, I thought it was worth a punt and I'm glad I ordered this. My desk setup is tidy, I connect one (Thunderbolt) cable and it just works - cracking piece of kit!

Excellent, but.......
There is a lot to like about this product but there 1 hugely annoying problem with it. As a universal dock it is great. It's almost plug and play (I did have to manually install the application) but once it's loaded I can connect laptop, shut lid and use my 2 externals screens (or use laptop screen and 1 external). However my problem is that I have 2 Acer Aspire laptops (one brand new and another about a year old) and it does not include the power adapter for it. More frustratingly on the Targus lid which lists the adapters it does list the correct one but it's not included??I purchased this because my friend has one and he could not recommend it highly enough. His is older and shipped with the correct adapted for my laptop but the new ones don't include it!!Amazon sent me another in case mine was just missing but the 2nd one had the same adopters.

Looks good, performs poorly
I have a Sony Vaio Ultrabook (SVT13) running Windows 8. The laptop comes with 2 USB ports one of which is USB 3.0. It also comes with both VGA and HDMI ports. I am regularly using it in a dual Monitor setup (either through VGA or HDMI, can't use both at the same time) and it works flawlessly. The reason that I purchased the Targus USB 3.0 was to have a dedicated docking station with power so I don't have to unplug 3 or 4 cables every time I want to take my laptop with me. It also meant that I could keep my charger in the laptop's bag all the time.Well the charging part of the docking station works fine and is really convenient. It's all the other features that fail. The video output is good but is definitely less sharp than when using the native ports. Also there is a slight drop in the performance of the laptop when driving 3 screens in total (the laptop's plus 2 more from the docking station) but not that bad actually. Still one can definitely get used to it and work more or less unobstructed. It is the USB functionality of the dock that fails miserably. I don't know how they managed to do that but almost everything that I connected on the dock's ports failed to work as it should. This was especially apparent with wireless mouses/keyboards where the lag was awful. To make it worse, when I was connecting the wireless dongle to one of the USB 2.0 ports of the dock it was very slow and would randomly disconnect after 10-15 minutes. When connecting it to one of the 2 USB 3.0 ports the mouse and keyboard stayed connected but they were still remarkably slow (especially the mouse).I had the same problems with audio interfaces and even external HDDs. At the end I could only trust the USB 3.0 ports of the dock but I still had random problems. Combine that with a couple of BSOD I got while using the product plus a scary bug that was causing the laptop to halt forever when booting if the dock was connected and you can see why I gave it 1 star.I have already repacked the hardware and will return it back to Amazon promptly.

A great universal power docking station for home (and office)
I have a HP Envy 15in and this docking device works perfectly. There is enough power to keep the laptop working (i.e. without the battery inserted into the laptop) with all the additional connections in the docking station (HDMI, Ethernet, Wireless dongle, printer)but there isn't enough power to charge the battery whilst it is inserted. Reason being, HP UK plug adapter sends 120w into the laptop whilst the plug for the docking station is only 90w. According to HP, this is a small capacity charger. If you are going to use a second or third screen, make sure you set Targus setting for the multiple screens to the correct resolution, if not you may experience lagging.Other than the above comments, this is a excellent device, a great investment.

good unit for the workshop
This will make life easier for my laptop repairs, I am disappointed that it appears to be an older model - circa 2013/14. The handbook doesn't mention compatibility with windows 10 though of course it is, and there are no display port connections, although there is nothing to stop me using adaptors for this purpose. USB 3 is available. A robust unit with different power connections which will suit most laptops. There are more up to date models available at a similar price.JC
