I asked my 7-year old son to review the book and this is what he said...
My 7 year old son's review:"I like it because it talks about ex-spiring (he means inspiring) stuff. I like the pictures and it is interesting. And also the speech bubbles are very funny and I like it. It really expires me!"My review:This book is probably a bit above my son's independent reading level, but is fantastic as a book to read with a parent. He prefers that I read most of the content to him, but will read aloud to me if prompted. It goes over some pretty high-level concepts with relatable metaphors and beautiful illustrations. My son was able to explain the concept of density to me using some of the illustrations and I caught him re-reading one chapter of it on his own. If your kiddo likes non-fiction/science type reading, I highly recommend this book, even if you still need to help with some of the reading.

Reinforces the basics and adds details, fun format, great book
This is such a fun book! My 8 year old daughter has developed an interest in astronomy, and in black holes in particular. She can explain how they work and is fascinated by them. This book was a terrific combination of the basics she already knew, and additional details she could learn. It is presented in a fun format with lots of illustrations and accurate details. Perfect purchase to satisfy her craving for more information about this great subject.

Great book!
Bought this for my 6 yr old. He loves it. We read a couple chapters a night. I looked around for a book on black holes after he asked the librarian for one and they had nothing for kids. This really explains things in a manner they can understand without being too simplified.

I've read this to my 6 y/o twice already. He loves it. While this is tailored to kids, it's a little too advanced for a 6y/o, but it gave me a chance to nerd out and explain some concepts.

Great book
Great photos on every page. Written well and easy for kids to understand. My son is 8, and loved reading it. A lot of good information. Would be good for kids his age all he way up to 12 or 13 i think.

"Gravity Zone"
Get ready for an entrancing ride! This is not a fantasy book where scientific understandings are "based predominately on the imagination" (Temple, Martinez, & Yokota, 2011, p. 278). It is a lively and humorous book that just so happens to also be a fun way to learn about gravity, and the role it plays in the formations of black holes. The pictures are amazing, and definitely stimulate the mind as they enhance the reader's knowledge. A clear understanding of the science is presented with the photographs and realistic illustrations. Along with pictures are included charts and graphs that make the book not only informational, but engaging as well. I feel the pictures helped reinforce the ideas of the text, allowing tough concepts to seem a little clearer.References:DeCristofano, C. C. (2012). A black hole is not a hole. One of the best nonfiction picture books this year
This is just a top notch book. Not only is it highly informative, and not only does it make the whole concept of black holes incredibly clear and easy to understand, but the book is written with such voice that you can hardly put it down. This would be an excellent choice for a nonfiction read-aloud for students from third through eighth grades. Highly recommended.
