Great step by step learning...

I recently purchased this book and I am about 1/4 through the instruction so far.The book is well written, concise, very nicely illustrated with color photographs, menu illustrations, tips and overall very easy to follow. While the menus are shown for Apple OS, I am using Windows 11 platform and there are a few minor differences in the descriptions; although nothing so far that isn't fairly obvious or easy enough to figure out.I contacted the Publisher via email to request the Image Folder mentioned in the opening of the book and described to contain the images used throughout the book for the lessons and instructive actions. I received a response along with the electronic zip folder within minutes, along with an offer to assist in any questions regarding the book, the lessons or GIMP in general--GREAT Customer Service!!I have been a technical illustrator, technical writer, and Electronic Engineer for over 45 years so I have seen the evolution of personal computers, graphic illustration programs and numerous instructive books to help users learn the particular programs they report to describe. Many, while intending to offer great instruction, fail bitterly; this book is on the far end of the positive scale and appears to hit the subject right on mark with a very understandable format and very nice presentation by the Author and the Publisher.If you are entering the world of GIMP, I urge you to look into getting this workbook; I am sure you will be pleased with the contents, format and overall quality.I am not affiliated with the Author, Publisher, GIMP or Microsoft Windows in any way or form. A real good guide for the beginner.The lessons are well thought out and efficent. Well worth the price. I am a Architect and assuch have little time to waste. Learning new software can be a real drag, so when a no-nonsence tutorial comes along, it's wellcome in our office.E-maill support for Lesson files on the weekend- Awesom!

I tried several different ways to learn GIMP and the GIMP Workbook was by far the easiest and most effective -- and absolutely worth its $9.95 price. A YouTube video -- 2 hours long -- never answered many of my most fundamental questions. The tutorials on the GIMP site didn't seem connected to the current version of GIMP -- and again didn't answer my fundamental questionsI'm someone who is very computer literate -- if it's Excel or C++ -- but who has never worked with graphics software. So there's a whole bunch of stuff like Layers and Filters that I just don't know anything about. The GIMP Workbook leads you through these basic concepts in a way that's readily understandable . It took me the better part of a day to get through the Basics section -- doing all the examples. But by the end of that time I really feel comfortable with the basics of GIMP. I can bring in an image and manipulate it with some confidence. It's clear there is still an incredible amount to learn, but at least I know what is being discussed, and how to hack at the interface to try to accomplish what I want.

This is a "must have" if you are new to GIMP. Twenty instruction sections that are very well illustrated and clear instructions. Talk about support, I requested their picture file (used in the lessons) from the link shown in the manual on a Saturday night and had it in my inbox that Sunday morning, along with a message that indicated if I needed help just email them and they would help. This is support you only dream of!

I bought this book because of all of the five star reviews and the fact that this books release date was close to the latest release of GIMP. After working thru a number of the lessons in the book I’m quite frankly astonished at all of the great reviews. I think this is one of the worst books ever read! The writing is juvenile with inconsistent use of terminology and apparently no editing whatsoever. A paragraph that introduces each new GIMP technique describing the purpose of the GIMP feature would have been very useful. I found as I read the lessons that I needed to go and read the online GIMP tutorials for each lesson to fully understand each capability.

This book is written for people that usually hate manuals. It is straight to the point and very easy to understand and follow.
