It is open over the camera, but it has raised lips to provide some protection.

You mean "Bluetooth"? Yes, it works well.

Q: How good is the built in screen protector? Would you recommend a tempered glass to go with it instead?

The built in screen protector works well. I decided to use it first before buying a tempered glass. I figured I would use the built-in first and if I didn't like it then I would buy a tempered glass. I'm happy with my decision. If the responsive of the built-in changes in the future, then I can change it later

I have used protectors on my phone with this case with no issues. Including glass ones.
