Helps to introduce maths for a resistant learner
I bought this as my 7 year old is struggling with maths in yr 3. He is behind in class with other subjects and I thought that this may engage him in a different way to help him. He was interested in the game but I had to choose a certain amount of cards that I thought he would be able to achieve with a little help as some of the cards are adanced for an average 7 year old let alone my son. I would say that this game is suitable for 6 - 10 year olds. Quite a lot of it is about memory which is good but some have quite a lot of details on them though. I am assuming that the games is aimed at a wide range of ages. It is worth buying though as you can play the game and as your child gets older it will still help them and it is a family game.

Great game for the price
I bought this game for my daughter who is 5 and a half to help her with her concentration. For the price of £5.99 I thought it was really good value! In theory you could probably make your own cards but the quality of these are very good and it comes in a nice compact box.My daughter is a bit young for some of the questions however I have gone through and picked out the cards she could deal with and sometimes modify the questions. It has also helped with her reading skills in trying to read the questions herself and can see quite a lot of use from it.If I had paid more that about £8 I may have been slightly disappointed. Have also been asked by friends whose kids have played it at my house to get this as a gift for them too. Definitely recommend at the current price of £5.99

Nicely made, but watch out in case your kids like it too much.
The game consists of a lot of cards with two sides. You have ten seconds to memorise what you see on one side of the card, then throw the dice which decides which question (on the other side of the card) you need to answer. Most of the questions are based on remembering what was on the cards. My 9 year old daughter loves this game, and my four year old is able to participate too, as remembering forms a large part of the questions. The necessity of having to remember things means that vocabulary, functions, and other maths type things will eventually sink in. A good way to trick your kids into learning. But be warned. Its a bit boring if you're grown up and middle aged (and boring) like I am, but your kids want to play and play and play it with you ;-)

My 6 year old grandchild loves Brainbox Maths!
My six year old grandchild loves this and is looking forward to having the science one. It does teach some maths skills, but heavily relies on remembering visual clues, some not maths related at all, although recalling these facts is helpful. As a teacher, I perhaps look with a more critical eye, and know how to use other maths language to ensure the correct maths language etc. is used. We are only part way through the box as I have arranged it to suit her current maths topics e.g. graph work, so make sure she knows that a pictograph is more commonly called a pictogram etc. Certainly a winner in presentation, colour, sturdiness etc. and well loved as a game.

Brainbox maths
I bought this for my daughter, aged 7yrs who finds maths a bit of a struggle. She was initially reluctant to play what appeared to be a "boring maths game" but having played it, she loves it. It has a number of cards each with different diagrams, graphs, shapes, sums etc and the child looks at a card for a period of time (using the timer or not, up to you)and then gets a question based on what they've seen. It's maths without them realising it really as it's essentially a memory game. We've played it as a family with me reading the card out loud to my 4 year old, and he enjoys it as well - they like to compete with each other to see who can get the largest number of correct answers. I think it would appeal to older children as well as some of the cards are too difficult for key stage 1 children I think.

excellent
My 7 year old daughter was struggling a little with maths at school. As other reviewers have mentioned this wasn't an immediate hit upon opening a present to find a maths game. However she actually asks to play it now and it has definitely helped. It is structured more as a memory game, but the cards contain maths subjects such as geometry, percentages charts etc. The game is played where the child has 10 seconds to look at the card before a die is thrown and a corresponding question is asked. By attempting to memorise the features on the card math concepts are learnt almost by osmosis. Definitely worth the money and good that it can be played for any pre determined time so if you've only got 5 minutes it can still be used.

BrainBox Maths
Received this as a gift. My daughters aged 7 and 9yrs love it. Especially the 7 yr old. Great game to play when you've finished homework want some fun but would like to keep it educational! Some of the questions ask about colours on the picture rather than a mathmatical question, but this encourages the child to really observe the picture. Can keep some cards aside until the child has covered that topic, or can play with children of different abilities by creating a pile of cards each. No time limit so when the childs had enough you just finish, still someone wins. Could help to change the childs view of Maths from being difficult and boring, to fun even covers areas like fractions and percentages which kids often find challenging. Great price, good sturdy cards. I highly recommend it.
