Absolutely superb!!
I wanted to replace my former watch which I used for running races and during training sessions. I wanted one with a HRM (which this one has).I ordered it and received it two days later, superb delivery. Now I have to make it quite clear, I am the habitual technophobe - no ifs or buts, I really am. I dislike quite intensely, having to set up new gadgets or computers. I hate registering stuff online, putting in my personal details into the gadgets so that it has the correct information to work on etc etc, quite frankly I detest it all and would quite happily, plod along year in, year out and not renew or update a bloody thing, if it meant I was spared the ordeal (and to me, it really does feel like an ordeal) of setting stuff up.However, with the FR610, seriously I really need not have worried, I followed everything in the instructions to the letter and did them in the order they said to do them in and all worked out a treat! The watch was delivered to me and had 49% charge on it, so the first thing I had to do was put it on charge until it said "charge complete" - that took approximately two hours. After that, it was inputting my personal details such as gender, weight, height etc, I was prompted all along the way what info to input and then the watch was ready to use!The next day was my first run with it, I had it set so that it would vibrate every time I had run 1k in the course of my route, when it buzzed, it would tell me what my 1k time was for that "lap". After the run, I could look back through my history and see all of my 1k splits that had occurred during that 10k run - perfect and it was EXACTLY what I wanted out of this watch, EXACTLY!The watch took approximately 15-20 seconds to find the satellite before I started the run, which quite frankly was sod all, I take longer than that fiddling about with my i-pod for crying out loud LOL!The only discrepancy I found after that first run, was that for a 59 minute run, it said I only burned 449 calories - "that's well low" I thought, but then decided perhaps I had always overestimated previous calorie burns.I realized what had happened after the next day's run, when the watch credited me with 545 calories burned for a 48 minute run - more calories burned for less time on the road!) - I will explain so that if it happens to you, you will know. When you use the HRM strap and transmitter/module for the very first time, it is supposed to be "paired up" with the watch itself - how you do this is put the strap and module on your chest and when your heartrate is elevated, it will then "pair up" with the watch. However, during my first run with the watch, old brightspark here did not pair up the two and slung on the strap and module, put the watch on, went outside, got the satellite signal, pressed "start" and off she ran, down the road, up the road, round to the seafront, etc etc etc. The HRM only "paired" up with my watch when my HR was elevated enough which turned out to be quite a way into the run, in other words, the first 200 calories did not actually register, they only started registering AFTER it all paired up during that run! This "pairing" only needs to be done the first time, all subsequent runs etc it works automatically and will started from the beginning, hence why the next day, I was shown as having burned more calories for less distance. The watch has some fantastic features on it, such as autolap (buzzing or beeping when you pass the 1k or 1 mile (you choose the distance during the setup of the watch at the beginning - it prompts you to do so), autopause - this is where the watch will automatically pause should you suddenly stop running because you may be waiting to cross the road etc. You can set it up (although I haven't tried this out yet) so that you race against your previous time for a specific route. There is other stuff there that I haven't even discovered yet, but I will do, you mark my words, I will do!It can store many, many hours of previous runs, once the history memory is full, it will start to overwrite the ones at the beginning.Ah, yes, I nearly forgot, when running, the watch displayed three windows, the middle window showed the time I was taking to do the run, the stopwatch if you like. The smaller bottom window displayed my current running speed in mph. The top window displayed how much distance I had covered. I could read ALL three windows with no problems, you may not think that is anything special, but to me it is, because I seriously need to wear glasses when reading ANYTHING, but with this watch, I could clearly see the watch face and all of its displays whilst I was running WITHOUT glasses - superb! The watch is a touchscreen and you can scroll it with your fingernail, it is brilliant.Love it to bits, well worth it, thoroughly recommend. Five stars all day long.

Superb Running Watch - Boost your training!
I am reasonably new to running (about 8 months) and probably not the main target customer for such a high-end product. However, I compared the Frontrunner 610 against various other models from Garmin and other manufacturers and this watch has the right combination of features for me. I have now used it for about a month and as anticipated am making use of most of the features - including those that are premium on this model. The touch screen and accompanying menu system are very easy to use, including in rainy and dark conditions. After an initial tour of the menus I am able to find all of the features in a few seconds. The watch gains satellite signals very quickly - certainly in less than 30 seconds in my experience - and once you have the watch configured to your liking you can basically press the start button and head off for your run. This includes customised workouts which are easily configured either on the watch itself or using the free Garmin Connect software. The heart rate strap just works and delivers the information that you need. You can configure each of the training screens to show up to 4 data items relating to your session - things like heart rate, pace, distance covered, distance remaining in current workout and so on. As you can put any 4 fields on each screen, you can almost certainly get a setup that meets your individual preferences. And if you want access to more than 4 fields, you can spread them across more than one screen and configure to either switch between them automatically during your session or to change with a swipe of your finger across the screen. The wireless ANT stick can be left connected to your computer and your workouts will just automatically synchronise when you come in range. It really couldn't be any simpler.Best of all is that when you're not running you can wear this as a normal wrist watch - and it looks good. Unless you know what it is, you really wouldn't know this is anything other than a nicely designed wrist watch.I really don't have much to say on the negative front. Some people may find the screen slightly less responsive than they would like, especially if they are used to modern smart phone screens, for instance - but there is a good reason behind this. The screen has to be responsive enough to work when you want it to but has to resist responding to swipes from clothing in normal running conditions which may, of course, include rainy or windy conditions. For me, the screen is a good compromise but you may sometimes have to swipe or tap more than once to get the response you're looking for. Apart from that, I can't think of any negatives. If you want a running watch that you can use to plan and track your workouts and that will help you to improve your running this is an excellent candidate and well worth the financial investment.
