Very, very special book! (Different story to the films)
Really special book. My daughter struggles to get motivated about reading and she found this very special. I would love to let the author know that she's done so well here. This is the original so a totally different experience to the films.

Great funny story
This is a great kids book, I picked it up after loving the film so much.I enjoyed the drawings and little explanations in between pages too.A great book to read if you're a fan of the films or an 8 year old obsessed with dragons!

Absolutely Brilliant!
My six year old son and I read all of Cressida Cowell's "How to train your dragon" series together and we both love them. They are staggeringly good. I rushed home from work to make sure we had time to read. I regularly gave in to pleas to read "just one more chapter".. The stories are magical and the writing impeccable. The quality of the story telling and the literary quality of the books is right out of the top draw. The books are full of fantastic characters (male and female), strong story lines, moral dilemmas, funny episodes, excitement, action and plenty to keep you entertained. But that is not the best bit. At their heart these are stories about growing up; about friendship; about loyalty; about never giving up, and never ever letting your friends down. Plus you get to learn lots and lots about Dragons oh and lots about how difficult it is to grow up, especially if you are a Viking. These are truly great books, read and enjoy, now matter what age you are. You are in for a treat.

Great Book - especially for boys!
All four of my boys have read this book - aged from 8 to 11. One of my boys is not a great reader and even he couldn't put it down. The story is well written as well as being very funny. I don't want to give too much away but the main gist of the story is about a viking boy who doesn't seem to fit in to the viking 'mould' - the age old theme of not fitting in and how that is overcome will appeal to most children. Of course, once they've read it, they can watch the film!

Childhood favourite
I loved this as a child, as a teenager, and once again as a fully fledged adult. I bought this as a gift for my adult boyfriend who had only every seen the films (they are great films, but the only thing they took from the books was Hiccup, Vikings, and dragons. None of the interesting nuances of the books. Or even, y'know, the actual plot) and he laughed. I think that meant he was pleased.Either way, How To Train Your Dragon is a great short read, recommended for children and adults alike. The illustrations are great and one of my favourite elements of the book!

Brilliant
I don't know why the bit about the film is in the brackets as this book IS NOTHING LIKE THE FILM. This book and in fact all the books are brilliant. There is so much humour in it for both kids and adults. I found that the kids didn't have to ask for "just one more chapter" as i could barely out the book down myself. I'd watched the film before hand so it did take some getting used to the differences. Toothless does endear himself as the story progresses. He is not some glorified puppy as in the film. He is a dragon after all.
