The under bed needs a separately bought mattress too. The bed is sturdy and the underbed is perfectly strong enough to support kids and lighter adults. Easily reinforced with more cross bars if you want it to take jumping kids or a heavier adult. Very good value and stylish.

also mattress for underbid need to be very thin -- i had problem with underbid mattress onn - it does not slide under the bed -- its a pain. Also if adult walks on top of underbed; it will break very easily ( so think twice on accidents)
