Review: How to diagnose and fix everything electronic - Great electronics book with details of equipment needed and tips to find and fix faults. I might already own this book somewhere in my house but could not find it so I bought it again. I do electronics as a hobby and have done as part of my college and university studies but unfortunately work in a bakery but electronics would be my dream job. Very good book and packed full of information. Review: Brilliant book - Great read for the electronic hobbyist . Absolutely love this book but half way through gets a little too in depth for a beginner like myself but brilliant book nonetheless and well worth a read

Very helpfull
Being an amateur electronics hobbyist for several years I am looking for books that can give advanced tips of how to fix "things". This is an art in itself as it require great knowledge and experience in the field. Also, because "things" today are different from older electronics - there is so much more digital components, SMD-soldered parts and complicated PCBs -it can be difficult to give advice that last without being too general. The book is written by an experienced old hand that know his solder and it really brings a lot of good advice, combined with nice close-up photos. I like that the author explains some cases that was complex to solve - and I would want more of such histories, as they sometimes are better to get the point through. I would have wanted some more tips on repairing or modifying modern electronic music equipment, as this is where I am now (modding older synths). But all in all, the book is recommendable.

I like the author's style
Really insightful and very easy to read. Great story telling from the author that really helps to set the pace and tone, helping the topics sink in without having to go back over old ground, as with a lot of text books. A great section on tools to acquire and tips on how to use them throughout. Really liked the nod to the magic smoke - if you let it escape, you can rest assured the device is not likely to work afterwards.

A very useful book with valuable tips for repairing electronic appliances and components. Would be 5 stars were it not for the sometimes strange language Jay Geier uses.

You don't have to be an electrical engineer to do a repair and you don't have to understand every detail of electronics. A very practical approach to electronics, which I liked a lot after reading usual theory books. It gave me a new view on this topic. A broken switch, a corroded trim-pot, the circuits of the power supply, the electrolytic capacitors or a shorted diode might be the problem. You need some understanding about what's going on in the circuits to find the faulty parts. Modern, new technology, with its small components and the high density of parts is, of course, difficult to repair. The author gives realistic advice how to handle these newer devices anyway, somehow, sometimes. Some devices he writes about aren't interesting anymore because of technical advance (for example mechanical parts). But this accounts only for a few pages of this book. Most of the advice in this book is universal. After all, I really like this book and I recommend it to everyone interested in electronics.
