Inexpensive and easy to apply, does the job 😎
Purchased a pre-worn Celtic & Co Wax cotton 3/4 riding coat that just needed reproofing, from a well known auction site for £200 less than the retail. After a quick review of the available options and application methods I decided on the Grangers wax. A good quality traditional alternative at around 1/2 the price of the Thornproof wax and with no need to warm it up first.Application: A big coat with lots of seams, straps and pleats, I decided to use an ironing board with an old towel to protect the boards cover. This allowed me to focus on individual panel areas and flatten them out. Then using a clean washing up sponge I loaded it up with the soft wax and methodically worked the wax into the coat. The wax went on quickly and covers evenly, after finishing 1 panel and seeing the obvious difference it became easier to judge the amount of wax required. The full coat, including the storm flap panels and trim areas took about 1 1/2 hours in total to cover, and about 20 mins with a hair dryer to ensure it was soaked in to the cloth and there were no dry patches. The coat now looks like new and there is at two thirds of a tin left.Recommended? Yes this took a while to complete, but this was an extreme case and having done it once I won’t be using the Barbour reproofing service again. If all you need to cover are a few dry patches or seams that need reproofing then this will do the job quickly and blend in seamlessly.

Good, but you might need more than one tin.
As you can see from the photo, I applied the wax to the cape and arms of this canvas jacket. This used up the whole tin. Only one coat on the arms, and two on the cape, using a hairdryer between coats. Water wasn't beading off after one coat, but still sinking in.The product is good, but if you are using on canvas, or a large jacket, get more than one tin. Application was easy. I warmed up the wax to make life easier.

Works well but allow a couple of hours to apply
I have a waxed Australian style full length Drovers coat that was in need of re-waxing and so I decided to try this product as it had decent reviews and a good price. Most reviewers and how to video's were for traditional wax jackets that reach waist level so with a full length coat I decided to order 2 tins. Let me say right away that 1 tin was more than enough even for a full length coat with some left over.Following guidelines and instructions I softened the wax by sitting the tin in a bowl of just boiled water and left it to soften. In my case it softened well but never became totally liquid but that was fine.Using a soft cloth I worked it into the coat focusing on one panel at a time and working it into an area of about 150mm square at a time to make sure it was well worked into the material and as even as I could get it.I worked on a flat tabletop (protected) to make it easier to work in so make sure you have a good work area. The complete coat took about 2.5 hours to do and the difference was easily visible and then I left it hanging in an airing cupboard for 24 hours so the wax could sink in to the fabric.I wore the coat 2 days later as the British weather gave me every opportunity to test the waterproofing and the water simply ran off and did not penetrate inside.I did feel that the coat now had a shiny finish which I was not keen on so once back home and dry I spent another hour with a hair dryer slowly playing it over the entire surface and could see the wax soften and soak more into the surface. This left it noticeably less glossy and more a material matt finish which looked much more like the original manufacturer finish. So in summary I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to bring new life to any old tired wax garment. For good results be prepared to spend several hours (Almost 4 in my case) working hard, do finish off with a hairdryer and leave it hanging for 24 hours in a nice warm environment. As a word of caution, do not over apply the wax because if there is more wax than the material will absorb the finish will be glossy and even have a white wax film in cold weather.

Perfect for Barbours
Easy to apply, lighter than expected but worked well and a perfect "repair" after treating with heat.

Easy to use
Usually use Barbour wax to re-wax my jackets. Gave this a try as it was cheaper. It has a softer consistency and was easier to use. I will use this on my other waxed coats.

Alternative to well known brand
Brought as an alternative to my usual product to Waterproof my barbour cotton jacket. Seems to apply the same, melt the same and smell the same as other more expensive brands. Has worked well and restored water repellence. Will buy again as is best value for money i have found so far
